FAFSA Tweets Questionable Meme, Internet Explodes
I always get a little giddy when government employees shit the bed. The nature of their high profile jobs means that any time they make one misstep, the world breathes down their necks like stink on shit. Even if the national media doesn’t destroy them one repetitive news segment at a time, social media never disappoints.
Yesterday evening, the imbecile who was tasked with running the Federal Student Aid Twitter account watched his career end with one tweet.
Here’s the tweet that set off the storm:
As you can imagine, this did not go over well with the masses. Those who enjoy getting riled up took to Twitter to express their displeasure. The tweet was deleted shortly after the uproar began.
The organization waited a few hours before tweeting an apology late last night.
We apologize for the insensitivity of our previous tweet. Our goal is to make college a reality for all. We’re very sorry.

While some were understanding of the mistake, others unsurprisingly decided that being offended was their best course of action.
@FAFSA fuck you, eat a bag of dicks

@FAFSA I don’t usually swear on Twitter, but…WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING? My God, now you’re laughing at the debt you put students in?

@FAFSA y’all ain’t one once of shit.

While I’m not actually sure what the fuck that last Twitter user wanted to say, I’m assuming she’s pissed off.
Sure, sending out the tweet was a terrible idea. The potential for disaster was great, and any moron with common sense could see the impending backlash. Personally, I thought it was hilarious. It breaks up the monotony of standard, bland, governmental bullshit. I hate FAFSA as much as the next guy, but I have to appreciate its attempt at humor, even if it was in the form of a horribly executed, cringe-worthy tweet.
Regardless of my opinion on the matter, watching the Internet explode in acceleration of someone’s downfall is never an event I want to miss.
Fuck the haters, FAFSA. You do you.
Being a white, upperclass male, applying for college scholarships was really the first time I ever felt disenfranchised. I guess all this other time, I’ve been “enfranchised”.
