FAU Sigma Chi Treasurer Allegedly Stole $18K From Fraternity To Support His Drug Habit

A 25-year-old Florida Atlantic University student is accused of allegedly stealing $18,000 from his fraternity and blowing it all on drugs. Why is a 25-year-old still in college at FAU and very active in his fraternity? I haven’t a clue, but the story gets better. I promise.

Authorities say Joshua Caleb Dalton was working as the active treasurer for Sigma Chi when the alleged fraud took place. Dalton, however, allegedly stole the money with the full intent of paying it back. What a guy!

Dalton became treasurer for Sigma Chi in May after the person formally in that position stepped down, the report said. The former treasurer provided Dalton with a debit card that he was supposed to deactivate. Instead, Dalton used it and a second debit card to fraudulently withdraw $18,212.91, according to witnesses.

Dalton, a Boca Raton resident, admitted that he took the money to support his heroin addiction, but said he planned to pay it back, police said.

IOUs, however, are very, very frat. It’s like saying “I’ll get ya the money when I get ya the money,” and then giving ‘em the double finger pistols with a wink. Pro tip: You never really give them the money.

I imagine this is how that fraternity meeting went down.

I’m just gonna toss this out there — and feel free to toss right back at me — but I’m gonna suggest the house druggie not be your treasurer. Call me crazy, but every drug dealer I’ve known I wouldn’t exactly call a straight shooter. You find me one that keeps detailed spreadsheets on the imports, exports, net income and profit turnover ratio of his product then I’ll go ahead and eat a microwave. Until then, steer clear maybe.

Dalton is facing charges of grand theft between $10,000 and $20,000, fraudulent use of credit cards and fraudulently obtain property under $20,000, none of which are expected to help the 25-year-old’s student loan debt or put a dent in that heroin buy-back program. Yeesh..
