FIFA Official Is Shocked To Learn People Got Drunk At World Cup Matches

This dude can’t be serious. You’re telling me FIFA honestly didn’t see this one coming? Placing millions of some of the craziest fans from around the world (and from some of the heaviest drinking countries) in one, central location and selling them beer during the matches is bound to induce blackouts–and not the ones that fans in Jacksonville deal with whenever the Jaguars play. Getting drunk and watching sports go hand in hand. How FIFA didn’t know this is beyond my knowledge.

From AP:

FIFA’s number two official has said he’s “amazed” by the levels of drunkenness in Brazil’s World Cup stadiums, reviving a debate over whether alcohol sales should have been allowed at matches in the first place. In an interview with Brazil’s sports television network SporTV, Jerome Valcke acknowledged Tuesday that “maybe there were too many people who were drunk” at the matches and pointed to the connection between inebriation and violence.

If you ask me, people weren’t drunk enough if there weren’t any riots going on in the streets.

It didn’t help that Brazil fans were finally able to taste the liquid gold of beer at a soccer match for the first time since 2003, when officials banned sale of alcohol at any soccer match. Since Budweiser is a big sponsor for the World Cup, FIFA officials got the ban lifted for the World Cup.

Brazil banned alcohol sales at soccer matches in 2003 in a bid to curb fan violence. But Budweiser is a major World Cup sponsor and the tournament’s organizer, FIFA, insisted Brazil lift the ban in order to host the month-long event.

Fuck Budweiser and its Belgian-based company. And really anything else made in Belgium. The 2022 World Cup in Qatar could also experience a similar situation.

The 2022 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Qatar, a Gulf state where alcohol consumption in public is forbidden.

That doesn’t sound like a place I would want to live, much less visit. Between the corruption of Qatar officials and no public alcohol consumption, FIFA should just give the World Cup to America. It’s only right.

The best part of this is that drinking was banned in some of the stadiums until FIFA pressured them to lift the bans for the World Cup
