First Black Man In Decades Wins SGA Presidency At The University Of Alabama

The University of Alabama has elected its first black student government president since 1976. Elliot Spillers defeated Stephen Keller, who currently sits as vice president of student affairs, on Tuesday and received more than 8,500 of the estimated 15,000 total votes. This was both the highest election turnout and margin of victory since 2009.

From AL.com:

Elliot Spillers, a junior from Pelham, is also considered to be the first non-Machine candidate to win the election since John Merrill (now Alabama’s Secretary of State) won in 1986.

This will be Spillers’ first elected position within the SGA, where he has served appointed positions, most recently as deputy director of engagement.

Spillers contributes a large part in the success of his campaign to Greek organizations. He recruited significant support in the sorority community, and fraternities played a pivotal role — Alpha Tau Omega flew a giant Spiller banner from its house on campus.

With all the racial tension that’s received national attention lately, it’s hard to remember the significant progress this country has made over the years. Great to see a story like this to remind us just how far we’ve come.

Roll Tide!

I’m not even going to bother reading this article. Obviously this website is a whole lot more worried about being progressive and politically correct than appealing to the audience who it first appealed to. Which generally speaking were obviously conservative, Christian white males who saw this site as a refreshing getaway from the white guilt having, race baiting, PC ass hats who have made the news just one piece of liberal propaganda trash after the other. Which is where y’all are now. So in closing, fuck TFM and I hope your new found audience of try hard, high school frat stars is what you are happy attracting.

Strong support from the Greek society? That’s the biggest joke I’ve ever heard, ATO was literally the only none bottom tier house to vote for him and only three semi decent sororities voted him. The Greek society at Alabama did not want him at all

“Well I guess this boy got free, SO let’s go and find a tree he will never be in charge of me”- Alabama chant sung yesterday at some houses

Agreed, but publicly posting alleged chants from your Greek community does nothing but add fuel to the fire.

Spillers advocated to ban block seating and also supports all fraternity parties to be at third parties venues at Alabama. He was not supported by the Greek system in any way shape or form YET I voted for him because the other guy was a total douchecanoe.
