Five-Star UCLA Running Back Commitment Got Into A High Speed Car Chase With Police On Prom Night
Plano (Texas) West Senior High School running back and future UCLA Bruin, Soso Jamabo, was arrested over the weekend after trying to evade police in a high speed chase.
From The Dallas Morning News:
About 7:20 p.m., a Ford pickup driven by Jamabo got off State Highway 175 at a high speed. When an officer tried to pull the truck over, Jamabo sped through a stop sign and turned onto State Highway 274, Kemp Police Chief Robert Walker said.
The truck was swerving and speeding in the turning lane past other vehicles. Walker said the truck’s occupants also threw objects out of the windows “having total disregard for the public safety of others on the road.”
Eventually the truck stopped and Jamabo got out of the vehicle as instructed by the officer, he said.
Jamabo, 19, was held on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle. He was also given written warnings for minor consumption of alcohol, minor in possession of alcohol, speeding, driving without a license and disregarding a stop sign.
Jamabo may have been at Plano West’s senior prom earlier in the night. A photo uploaded to Twitter around 6 p.m. Saturday shows Jamabo in a suit posing with a date who’s wearing a long gown. She wrote it was “prom.” Jamabo retweeted the photo.
Doesn’t seem like Jamabo made it to prom for very long before bailing, or if he went at all. Can’t say I blame him. Everyone knows prom night is all about the after party. The actual event itself is rather painful. You’re dropping a few hundo to rent a tux, take countless photos with people you won’t care about a month later, eat dried-out catered food, and receive nonstop judgmental glares from teacher chaperones when you’re dry humping your girl on the dance floor.
The only thing that makes the whole event bearable is constantly sneaking to the bathroom to take swigs from your flask, and the false bravado that you’re totally going to bone your date in a few hours time. More power to Jamabo if he wanted to skip that whole asinine process and get down to the business.
However, you’re one of the nation’s top recruits, Jamabo. You simply can’t be driving yourself on prom night. You’ve got to, at the very least, shell out for a party bus that’s on call. Drinking and driving and then going full on Mario Kart, launching things out of your truck at cops is not ideal if you want to play big time college ball. It’s more suited for kids with aspirations of the University of Phoenix or ITT Tech..
