Forbes Writer Canned After Blaming Fraternity Woes On Drunk Girls
Look, we all know that drunk girls are a force of nature. One of them can be a nuisance, but a gaggle of them could bring down ISIS if you airdropped them in. But Bill Frezza, a (now former) writer for Forbes, made a classic mistake this week when he wrote a controversial post blaming…well, basically all of the current fraternity system’s problems on drunk females.
Come on, Bill. Be smarter than that. First, let’s talk about Bill’s weird use of the word “females.” It’s oddly clinical, and it makes his post sound like he’s talking about some unknown entity. I blame it on his alma mater being MIT, but still, they’re just babes, Bill, not experimental variables. The problem Bill has is that he makes some decent points and sincerely means well, but all of that gets lost in a jumble of jackassery.
Here are a few nuggets:
“As recriminations against fraternities mount and panicked college administrators search for an easy out, one factor doesn’t seem to be getting sufficient analysis: drunk female guests.”
See? Weirdly clinical, right?
“But it is precisely those irresponsible women that the brothers must be trained to identify and protect against, because all it takes is one to bring an entire fraternity system down.”
Ah, the old “drunk chick who launched 1,000 anti-frat ships” argument.
“…the best way to reduce the incentive to furtively chug half a bottle of vodka before going out for a night of fun is by lowering the drinking age to 18 while encouraging the consumption of beer over distilled spirits.”
First off, no amount of beer availability is going to convince me to give up hitting the liquor bottle–not in college, not now. Secondly, how does lowering the drinking age help? I mean, I’m for it, I’m just not sure how it factors into your argument.
“And so, any time a fraternity hosts an open party, wet or dry, brothers must assume that the house will be filled with ticking time bombs.”
Uh oh, Bill just objectimorphized women. Bad move. Do you want to end up on Jezebel, Bill? Because that’s how you end up on Jezebel.
“False accusation of rape months after the fact triggered by regrets over a…”
You know what? Let’s stop there. Is false accusation of sexual assault a real fear that guys have? Absolutely. Is it so prevalent that you should use it as a pillar in your argument? No.
Ultimately, drunk girls are about as much of a liability to your chapter as drunk guys, because drunk people are morons in general. The only way to mitigate risk isn’t to target one group over another, it’s to monitor your parties carefully. That includes everything from not letting in people who are clearly already trashed, all the way up to protecting both your female guests AND male brothers from potential sexual assault.
It really is that easy. If Bill had said, “drunk people are stupid and sex should always be consensual,” he might still have a job..

This article fucking sucked. TFM needs to get Bill Frezza onboard.
11 years ago at 3:37 pmHe isn’t really lying, go to any party/bar/club and the overly drunk guy who starts shit/pukes on the floor/ gets too handsy will get 86’d before his buddies can even help him out. But everyone tolerates “that drunk girl” to the point it’s become a real-life meme and it’s seen as a joke. I’ll admit I’ve seen blacked out chicks at our parties and thought to myself “we should really kick this drunk chick out”, but at the end of the day it’s easier to just focus on what you feel is the immediate threat and it’s the dude on the dance floor who’s being a fucking buzzkill.
11 years ago at 3:45 pmIf Bill over exaggerated then you definitely under exaggerated. You don’t have to read too far into these comments to see that stories like this really are a dime a dozen. I agree with Sterling though that I am not convinced lowering the drinking age would solve this problem or really help it all that much. Something I’ve always thought would really do this issue justice would be to take a closer look at the definition of, “rape.” Look, I can sit here, and pander to all the girls and play the, “no means no and rape is rape,” game and receive thunderous applause/snaps, and be viewed as a pristine advocate of women’s rights and a true fraternity gentleman. But, the fact of the matter is rape is not rape just as theft is not theft, assault is not assault, and murder is not murder. There is 1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, man slaughter, involuntary man slaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, shop lifting, burglary, grand theft auto… is that enough examples? Categorizing these kinds of instances as what they usually are, two adults who both got too drunk and made a poor decision, is going to go much further than some university bureaucracy deciding the accused is guilty until proven innocent. The biggest picture, however, is for the girls. I hope it goes without saying that I would never defend a man who would violently attack and force himself on a girl, nor would I defend a man who would duress a girl into drinking more so she would be easier to take advantage of her, nor would I defend one who had sex with a girl when he was aware that she was too drunk. The fact of the matter is that to take a girl who was violently attacked and forcibly penetrated and compare her to the girl who had too much to drink and made a decision she would not have other wise made is to do an injustice to the former victim. It’s sexist NOT to talk about it. I’m on your side, ladies… the problem is some of you aren’t.
11 years ago at 6:06 pmThese comments make me proud. Good to hear fraternity men aren’t influenced by PC bull shit and can handle the truth. This is precisely why I never party with GDIs, especially girls. Timebombs are the perfect description of them.
11 years ago at 6:41 pmThe old guy is right as most of us know. The majority of too-drunk women dont give a fuck about the house or the guys in it and are just looking for a good time at our expense. They stupidly put themselves at risk and we have to protect them no matter how little they try to protect themselves. One of us makes a mistake or she gets hurt and the entire chapter is fucked. The point has little to do with lack of consent to sex.
