Former LSU Acacia Pledge Details Hazing Experience After Chapter Indefinitely Suspended

We almost made it a week. It has been six days since we last reported on a fraternity being removed from campus. Last week, Pi Kappa Phi at NC State was suspended after restaurant employees discovered a pledge book full of offensive content. I genuinely believed we’d reach a full week without watching another chapter disappear from its respective campus, but it appears as if LSU’s Acacia chapter isn’t going to let us reach that milestone.

On Tuesday, it was reported that the chapter was “indefinitely suspended” following claims of behavioral misconduct. As the university investigates the chapter, a YouTube video detailing the alleged hazing was posted on the website of LSU’s school newspaper, The Daily Reveille.

The former Acacia pledge discusses his Hell Week experience that included eating dog food, excessive smoking, and forced exercises.

The former pledge who reporting the hazing claims that he did so to protect others, but he has paid the price for his reports.

From LSU Reveille:

In December he wrote an email detailing his experiences to the Associate Director of Greek Life, Jonathan Sanders

He says his main motive in writing the email is to warn other students about the pledge process.

Since the email, he has received several threats on social media and his car was vandalized. Police are currently investigating the damages to his car, but he believes Acacia members acted out in retaliation.

The national organization has not yet commented on the allegations.

***UPDATE***

The national organization has finally commented on the allegations. They decided to officially remove Acacia off of campus.

The Acacia national office released a statement today announcing the closure of the University chapter after reported violations of the fraternity’s standards and policies related to the treatment of its members.

This kid didn’t even participate in hell week, and that he didn’t even know the names of some of his pledge brothers by the end of pledgeship. And that “heart condition” was actually low blood sugar. Him going public with these procedures makes greek life as a whole look bad and it seems to me like a desperate cry for attention. It’s truly pathetic how one person would rather take down a 60 year chapter then just drop like the rest of the pussies. God damn.

I have zero sympathy for this traitor. Once he saw an opportunity he sold out his brothers and most importantly gave up on his pledge brothers. Talk about a lack of unity occurring in this case. As for the hazing, dog food? Really? I am sure he was probably between the ages of eighteen and twenty when he pledged (an adult). Sounds to me he is a weak hearted coward. He also uses the word “forced” many times. I am assuming that no brother was holding him down at anytime”forcing” him to be there. If he didn’t like what he and his pledge class had to do, he should have walked out the door, rather than becoming a “brother” and selling out the ones that surround him to the public. Let this man be stripped of his letters.

From what I hear acacia nationals don’t even care. They’re already trying to find an off campus house to continue recruitment. Says something about their organization as a whole.

A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader. —samuel adams

    Stay strong, fellow greeks.

Proliferation of social media outlets and instantly shareable acts of stupidity aside, it seems as though some choice members of our system are almost choosing to destroy everything good that we do from the inside. Let’s ignore the publicly visible acts of stupidity; what the fuck is going on at these chapters that causes someone to 1) suggest that actives should subject pledges to shit of this caliber, I mean the really heinous stuff, not good natured character building and general physical labor, and 2) who thinks it’s a good idea to give whoever conceives point #1 a bid in the first place? The entire system is being slowly chipped away by our own collective stupidity, and I have seen firsthand what happens when a chapter is made up of “bros” instead of guys with values and integrity. I’m not saying that all bros are bad guys or are stupid – far from it, but the vast majority of the complete morons ruining everything we’ve worked for seem to be either lacking a chromosome or two, or are just generally shitty guys that I would never want to associate with.

Something needs to change at the recruitment and PR level, or we’re all fucked.

I’ll say one thing and shut up. People need to learn that talking about pledging has never ended well, ever. Whatever we did during pledging was between us and our brothers. That’s why you did it. It’s no one else’s business. The tough experience you went through was to show that you were willing to go through hell to, in return, be rewarded with lifelong friends. No one outside the fraternity will ever understand your rituals. Leave it at the house.

This is probably a reiteration of what’s been said, but I’m fine with hazing until it reaches a point of physical harm, that could lead to long term or even short term effects. There’s a point where it’s funny, then there’s a point where it’s just dangerous. As we are all adults if you can’t realize the line and stand up for protecting the future of your chapter than I feel bad for you. Hazing should be used as fun like a goofy scavenger hunt not Navy Seal training.
