Fraternity House Across Street From Elementary School Suspended Due To Complaints

Sigma Pi

Early Sunday morning, a party at the Sigma Pi house at Cal State Long Beach was broken up when the cops arrived after receiving a disturbing the peace call. A member of the fraternity was arrested as a result, and now city officials are taking issue with the organization.

From Press Telegram:

Julie Maleki, chief of staff for Councilwoman Suzie Price, said police personnel and representatives from the councilwoman’s office are meeting with the fraternity Wednesday to discuss the incident. She referred further questions to police.

Apparently, this is not the first time this particular Sigma Pi chapter has been under fire. They ran into trouble in 2007 for vandalism, and way back in 2002 when a lawsuit was filed against them, the first to ever be filed against the house.

The list of complaints in the lawsuit included excessively loud music, pools of vomit, used condoms, half-empty cups, bottles and cups of alcohol found at Fremont Elementary School across the street.

Sounds about right for the remnants of a party. Just not sure why there is a fraternity house across from the elementary school in the first place. Whose bright idea was that? You can’t rush those kids, so no need to stick a fraternity house literally right across from a school where little children run around. Makes no sense to me.

Second, to the neighbors who are a little upset over the disturbances, what’d you expect when you moved next door to a fraternity house? You think that they weren’t going to throw parties? That’s just lack of judgment on their part. The house has been there since 1975. Come on.

Cal State Long Beach has told the fraternity to suspend all house activities until an investigation is complete.

The school must have also had the Taco Bell kicked out before the fraternity moved in

When was the school built? Wouldn’t be the first time politicians or city planners use “innocent” properties to get residents they don’t like to vacate the area.

Dorn is probably looking into enrolling as a student next spring just to have a legit reason to be loitering in the area.
