Georgia Tech Campus’ Taco Bell Closes, Students Mourn With Full-Blown Funeral

I’ve cried three times in my life: when I shattered an untouched bottle of Johnny Walker Blue, at the first 15 minutes of Up, and when Georgia Tech students gave their Taco Bell a military-style funeral.

Georgia Tech students gathered to mourn the loss of their campus Taco Bell late last week, with one trumpeting student playing “Taps” as others cried and embraced each other.

Gone, but never forgotten (just like Mizzou’s on-campus Chick-fil-A).

It’s tough to fathom that a Taco Bell on a college campus couldn’t turn a profit, but apparently it had more to do with understaffing than anything. A recent Reddit post about the Taco Bell’s closing says at times the fine-dining establishment had only one guy running register and making food while surrounding restaurants had up to 10 employees working at a time. As you can imagine, that resulted in long wait times — not ideal for busy college students.

Something tells me that GT students — with a Chick-fil-A and Panda Express still up and running — will be able to absorb this blow. Now just get an on-campus Chipotle and I’ll immediately start filling out my application to attend in fall.
