Gulf Shores Police Baffled Over Spring Break Marijuana Candy Arrest
Apparently, Cheeba Chews are a real thing, and they’ve left law enforcement officials in Gulf Shores, AL, baffled after a recent arrest of a 20-year-old Kansas State student on spring break.
The gentleman, who was originally detained by an Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control agent for underage drinking, was found to have a bag of the THC-laden, Tootsie Roll-esque candy in his possession at the time he was booked. Cheeba Chews are legal in states like Colorado, Oregon, and California with lax laws on marijuana use, but Gulf Shores’ police didn’t know what to make of the harmless looking, yet highly-potent sweet treats.
Per NBC Local 15:
“Hey what’s this? Is this illegal? Is it not legal? How do we find out? This item in particular I wasn’t familiar with and the officers here I had spoke to weren’t familiar with it,” said Lt. Bill Cowen with the Gulf Shores Police Department.
Police on the beach had never seen the Cheeba Chews before the week of March 23.
The 20-year-old student was charged with a misdemeanor and spent a brief stint in the Baldwin County Corrections Center. Thanks to this Wildcat, the Gulf Shores PD now has a heightened awareness to the impending danger of reportedly delicious* ganja edibles.
