The West Virginia Student Who Blacked Out And Took A $1600 Uber Is Shamelessly Trying To Recoup His Losses
It was one of the craziest stories TFM has covered in quite some time: A West Virginia student hit the bottle a little too hard, blacked out, and woke up to an Uber driving him all the way back home to his parents’ house in New Jersey. But what we didn’t know at the time of the infamous excursion was how he was going to cover the $1600 bill.
Would he take the easy way out and beg mom and dad? Invest in cryptocurrency and pray the market bounces back? Work the concession stand at Press Virginia games? None of those. Kenny Bachman has vowed to go about this the honorable way: He’s going to beg strangers on the internet.
As of the time I’m writing this, Kenny has already raised $240. That’s a hell of a lot more than the average panhandler, and he did it without a witty cardboard sign. The internet’s wild.
You won’t ever catch me peddling a GoFundMe; I’ve always found crowdfunding to be pretty bush league. But this whole circumstance is so relatable, I can understand why people are willing to throw a few bucks at the kid. The whole process is a very college thing: Blacking out, then doing dumb shit, then regretting said dumb shit. No wonder it resonates..
