This one is for you, Auburn fans. It’s time to get your sweet, sweet revenge on the man who poisoned the famous oak trees at Toomer’s Corner–Harvey Updyke will sit in a dunk tank for a charity event in September. The event is to help raise money for a family whose son died of cancer in late July.

From ESPN:

Updkye, the Alabama fan who infamously poisoned Auburn’s beloved oak trees at Toomer’s Corner in 2010, has agreed to appear at a charity event Sept. 27 in Mobile, Alabama, in which fans will be allowed to either dunk him in a dunking booth or throw pies at his face.

“He thought about it and thought about it,” Updyke’s wife, Elva, said. “His daughter said he needed to do it because it will show that he’s not as big of a nut as some people believe. He told them they can do whatever they want to him if it will raise money for kids.”

I think that ship has sailed, Elva. This guy is a complete wacko and everyone knows it. But hey, it’s for the kids, and that’s all that matters. Are the Updykes scared of Auburn fans showing up at the event? It doesn’t sound like it.

“He knows there’s going to be a lot of Auburn fans there, but he doesn’t care,” Elva Updyke said. “He’s 65 years old. What are they going to do to him? They’ll have security there.”

I can think of some things they would do to him. Poisoning the water and/or the pies they throw at his face is the first thing that comes to mind. An eye for an eye, right? What’s the worst that could happen?

So he killed someone, right? What? You mean he only poisoned completely replaceable trees?

How the fuck is an 85 year-old tree “completely replaceable”? Last time I checked, they don’t sell fully grown oak trees at Home Depot.

What has the world come to when rednecks like this guy feel the need to conduct a PR campaign to improve their image?
