Here’s A Ranking Of College Football’s Most Loyal Fan Bases
Have you ever wondered which college football team has the most loyal fan base? Are you a loyal fan? Are fair weather fans even reading this?
Emory University’s sports marketing analytics group conducted its annual study of the most loyal fan bases in college football, or “fan equity,” as the group calls it. The group has a pretty crazy model it uses to determine who is the most loyal to their team.
From Emory University:
Our approach is data and statistically driven, as we look at how fans support their teams after controlling for how well the team performs on the field, the market it plays in, and school characteristics. For the fan equity analysis, we build a statistical model using publicly available data from the last fourteen years that predicts team revenues as a function of metrics related to team performance such as winning percentage, bowl participation, and other factors such as number of students, stadium capacity, etc. We then compare actual revenues over the last few years to what is predicted by our model.
Taking in all this data for every major college football team, the results aren’t too surprising. Texas leads the nation for having the most loyal fans, and apparently, there isn’t even a competition for the number one spot, despite putting out a subpar team since the Colt McCoy years.
Here are the top 10 most loyal fan bases, according to them:
1. Texas Longhorns
2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
3. Georgia Bulldogs
4. Florida Gators
5. Auburn Tigers
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
7. Michigan Wolverines
8. Oklahoma Sooners
9. Iowa Hawkeyes
10. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Alabama and LSU just missed the top 10, coming in at 11 and 12, respectively.

No matter how much I hate the SEC, they have the most loyal programs around.
10 years ago at 11:17 amAs a resident of Fort Worth Texas, I can tell you first hand that the Texas fan base is absolutely unloyal. Anybody from Texas can tell you that A&M has the most loyal fan base in Texas and maybe the nation. I go to TCU and hate the Aggies but it’s just the truth.
10 years ago at 12:57 pmI agree, A&M is just filled with so much tradition and pride that the students never get over it. A UT alum will probably wear a t-shirt here and there and maybe have a longhorn bumper sticker. A TAMU alum will donate a shit ton of money just to get the little “Century Club Member” sticker on their car and brag about their schools Engineering and Agriculture programs. Guys still give the Gig’em thumb 50 years after they graduated and forgot what TAMU stands for. The thing is, most TAMU graduates are so in love with Texas that they don’t leave, most relocate to Houston or Dallas for Oil or Energy corporations and the tradition and pride stays in Texas.

10 years ago at 2:40 pmPeople are longhorn fans, because that’s the only shirts they could find at wal-mart.
10 years ago at 3:02 pmLeaving A&M fans off here is a mistake. You won’t find a more loyal, diehard fan base out there regardless of how shitty the Aggies were before JFF came to town.
10 years ago at 3:33 pmSurprised to see Indiana didn’t make the cut.
10 years ago at 7:03 pmGeorgia has such a loyal fanbase that only 39% of their student section seats are empty during the average home game!!
