Nearly 500 mourners attended a vigil held Friday night in honor of University of Kentucky Beta Theta Pi brother Jonathan Krueger. Krueger was shot and killed while two men attempted to rob him and a friend early Friday morning as they walked down the street.

The chapter posted this message to their Facebook page yesterday afternoon.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEThis morning, the world lost an amazing Beta, brother and friend. We can’t express our sympathies…

Many of Krueger’s fraternity brothers and friends spoke during the vigil last night and shared their feelings regarding the loss of their friend.

From KFVS:

“At 5:30 this morning I got a phone call that left me speechless in time,” Krueger’s fraternity brother, Luke Lewis, told the crowd.

Several of Krueger’s fraternity brothers were shaken by both the loss and the violence.

“I was angry, I was sad, I was shocked all at the same time,” Lewis said.

Many talked about Krueger’s passion for photography.

“I truly think everyone loved him, really a horrible loss,” his Kentucky Kernel coworker, Morgan Hatfield, said.

Twitter was also flooded with messages of support for the Kentucky Beta Theta Pi chapter and Krueger’s friends and family, including several from high-profile Kentucky athletes.

One of Krueger’s fraternity brothers put together a great compilation of photos honoring the UK Kernal photojournalist.

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal robbery. The two men — Efrain Diaz and Justin Smith — were both arrested by Lexington police officers within 24 hours of the incident.

For those interested, there will be a second vigil on Monday night.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kentucky’s Beta Theta Pi brothers and Krueger’s friends and family.

Seeing that scumbag sticking his tongue out in that picture has me seething. Obviously doesn’t care that he took a young man’s life.

Rest in peace Jonathan Krueger. Gone way too soon.

Prayers to Jonathan’s family and friends. Couldn’t imagine having a loved one be murdered. Hope those two minorities get the death penalty.

I generally hate it when people get politically correct, but there’s just no need here to refer to the suspects as minorities. We saw them. They’re not white. A piece of shit is a piece of shit regardless of skin color.

It’s relevant when media organizations sweep minority-on-white crimes under the table with regularity, and white-on-minority crimes are blown out of proportion. It is also harder to get a death penalty sentence now for minorities-versus-whites because minorities have public opinion on their side (which does matter in the sentencing phase).

Yeah I’m usually down to stoop down to others levels to make a point but there’s a time and place for this kind of language regarding this kind of stuff. And let’s not stoop down to their level this time and view this as the loss of a great person. And not a “minority vs white” crime. That being said I wish I had 10 minutes with the shitheel that killed him and a sock full of pennies.

They have the blanket argument of “that’s racist” or “you’re a bigot” under normal circumstances that would broach the conversation, so I use it here at the extreme end. Thoughts and prayers with his family, murder of innocents is never excusable.

Pointing out that these are minorities? Remember when I called you a try-hard? Take a seat man. You would be no better than the liberals for irrationally conflating race into everything.

Yes, the state of Kentucky does have capital punishment. I hope these two pieces of shit are executed for their awful crime, they took a young mans life way to soon. My heart goes out to the friends and family or Jonathan.

Should they be found guilty, I hope they get life without parole over the death penalty so his future cell mate can show him what tongues are used for in prison.
