Ideal Songs for Porch Drinking
It’s time to cast off your responsibilities with a couple cold ones and your best buddies on a porch of your choosing. Every week we’re bringing you the best jams for a day of unwinding on the deck, dock, or boat. Nothing beats good friends and good music, so kick back and turn up the speakers.
Leave your suggestions in the comments for a chance to be featured on the next edition. The top comment will be selected as a fan favorite, and whatever track I dig the most will get an honorable mention.
Let’s crank some tunes.
Fan Favorite: Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress), The Hollies
Suggested by JimmyBuffet. An instantly recognizable tune that will get your foot from flaccid to full chub in no time at all.
Honorable Mention: Youth Gone Wild, Skid Row
Suggested by @brady_collins_ via Twitter. A perfect jam to set the tone or to take you from chill drinking to full on blackout.
1. Once Bitten Twice Shy, Great White.
You know it, you love it, and chances are your friends will too. This one’s for you Sharky. Congrats on the big break.
2. Drunk All Around This Town, Scott Miller & The Commonwealth
It’s a song about drinking for your drinking enjoyment. I believe those are called drinking songs.
3. Rebel Yell, Billy Idol
I barely understood a word Billy Idol said until I was about 12 years old. Still, I always knew deep down that he rocked. You aren’t all bad, England. Still whooped your ass in the revolution though.
4. East Bound & Down, Jerry Reed
Not sure if you heard, but Top Gun will be on Netflix this coming month. That’s all well and good. The fact that they still have yet to provide a single Smokey and the Bandit movie, however, is a damn disgrace. Protest something worth protesting by playing this song in unison. Fight on my brothers.
5. Check Yo Self – Remix, Ice Cube
You could bump Celine Dion over Grandmaster Flash’s ‘The Message’ and it would go. Of course if you put Cube over it there’s a strong chance that it’ll melt your face with pure rap genius.
6. It’s The End Of The World As We Know It, R. E. M.
It’s the sing-along song that nobody can sing along to.
7. May We Bang You, Parliament
v
You guys remember when George Clinton was in Good Burger? I watched that movie the other day and it really doesn’t hold up. Great music though.
8. Dome, Kush, and Codeine, Z-Ro
I enjoy all of these things but only receive two of them in moderation. Hey oh! But seriously, my lean problem is getting out of control.
9. Smash & Grab, Five Horse Johnson
That guitar absolutely sings and these stoners bring a serious country feel to a bitching rock and roll banger.
10. Better Than I Ought To Be, Randy Rogers Band
Going to see these guys in about a week and I am absolutely stoked. Here’s one off their eponymous album for nostalgia’s sake.
Again, be sure to leave your suggestions in the comments. As always, don’t drink and drive.
