Vietnam was a military victory in every way. We won every single major conflict in Vietnam. The fucking hippies were the ones trying to convince everyone we lost. Even if it weren’t just a “conflict” we’d still have an undefeated record you ignorant fuck. I

^This guy understands. We whopped the fuck out of those rice pickers, even during the Tet Offensive which every dumbass thinks turned the tide even though it was a huge military failure on the part of NVA.

Because we withdrew from Vietnam before we finished what we intended to do. Unfinished business does not = defeated.

Our original intention was to stop the spread of communism in the REGION. That is the key point when looking at the Vietnam War. The theory at the time was that a country bordering a communist one is more likely to fall into communism, however the region never did fall to communism. Although Vietnam itself may be a Marxist country, Vietnam BY ITSELF is pretty irrelevant.

^Actually Loas and Combodia both fell to communism only a couple years after we left Vietnam. In Cambodia alone the khmer rouge murdered 1/6 of their own population because they were such radical commies. The Domino Theory was somewhat correct, it’s just that Southeast Asia is a shit hole and we didn’t realize that it wouldn’t fucking matter if a couple of those countries turned to the dark side

Additionally, it was essentially impossible for us to stop North Vietnam’s incoming military supplies without igniting World War 3, as it was being directly provided by Russia and China. We would have had to directly engage those two to completely isolate our “main” enemy during the war, which is an essential tactic to win. Furthermore, we in no way expected the large scale guerrilla war that it turned out to be, and unfortunately couldn’t massacre every single village in the country under the suspicion of NVA/Viet Cong quartering.

^^^^^ we left because public opinion was very bad. The NVA didn’t beat us with their military.

^This guys gets it. It’s an entirely different matter when you’re fighting a well-armed insurgency with international backers rather than a traditional war. There was literally nothing we could of done to “win” that conflict other than kicking off WW3.

More like the British just deciding that fighting us wasn’t worth it so they just hopped aboard their tory canoes and high-tailed it back to England at the behest of ‘ole Georgie Boy

^Sounds remarkably similar to “the Americans just deciding that fighting the Vietnamese wasn’t worth it so they just hopped aboard their capitalism canoes and high-tailed it back to the USA at the behest of ‘ole Richie Boy”
