“Intramural” Stars Half Of The SNL Cast And Is The Be-All And End-All College Rec Sports Comedy

Greeks, nerds, old guys going back to school, and even GDIs have had hilarious college movies made about them. One aspect of college life that has lacked in the film department, however, is the weird, hilariously and unnecessarily competitive, drunken world of intramural sports. Mercifully, our wait is over, thanks to the upcoming film “Intramural.”

“Intramural” stars Jake Lacy of “The Office,” Kate McKinnon, Beck Bennett, and Jay Pharoah of “Saturday Night Live,” Nikki Reed of “Twilight” (She’s also the girl from “Thirteen” who made us feel feelings we had to bury deep down and never talk about again–FUCK YOU, EVERYONE WHO MADE “Thirteen”!) and a bevy of other hilarious actors and actresses.

Check out the trailer:

If you haven’t lost feeling in your penis due to blunt trauma during an intramural game, then clearly you aren’t a true intramural warrior–or your spinal injury was worse and way less weird than mine.

“Intramural” opened to rave reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival and was written by University of Texas alumnus Bradley Jackson. It was directed by Texan and NYU graduate Andrew Disney. The film’s tagline, “The epic sports movie for the guys who don’t deserve one,” pretty perfectly sums up college rec sports. In terms of sense of humor, Sports Illustrated describes it as “less Semi-Pro and more Wet Hot American Summer with its straight up odd humor.” If you’ve ever seen “Wet Hot American Summer,” you know that constitutes a pretty fantastic review.

But really, more than anything, this line from the trailer tells me that these guys get what makes an intramural sports movie great: “This might be our last shot at doing something that doesn’t matter.”

The filmmakers are hoping the movie can be out in theaters time for this fall’s football season. For now you can stay updated on their Facebook page.

They’re forgetting a character. Shitfaced, die hard fan who shows up just to heckle the other team.
