Irate 76ers Fans Destroy The Franchise On Instagram After Michael Carter-Williams Is Traded
As part of a three-team trade on Thursday, the Philadelphia 76ers dealt both the NBA’s 2013-14 Rookie Of The Year, Michael Carter-Williams, and another blossoming point guard, K.J. McDaniels, to the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets, respectively. The majority of Philadelphia’s return came in the form of wishful draft picks, in a move that many fans feel effectively set the rebuilding franchise back even further.
Some 76ers faithful took to the team’s Instagram account, which had posted a picture earlier this week of MCW making an appearance at All-Star weekend, to voice his disdain. The caption accompanying the picture reads, “Put on for Philly. #RisingSixers.” It’s a far cry from a compliment given to a player who admittedly didn’t even know he was on the trading block.
Sixers fans didn’t hold back when they let GM Sam Hinkie and the rest of the franchise’s management know how they really felt about losing one of the team’s few bright spots in the unexpected trade.
The account has since removed the comments, as if the franchise is trying to pretend that everything is okay in Sixerland today. Clearly, there are quite a few people who feel quite the contrary. It’s okay, though. Now the 76ers are setting their sights on the 2022 NBA Championship, and it’s not like seven years is a long time to wait. Deserting long-time fans and planning the best way to lose games: That’s what Philadelphia sports teams do!.

11 years ago at 1:04 pmYep. My bad. I botched that because I had too many windows open while I was writing this, including K.J. McDaniel’s Rockets trade and the move where the Nets and T-Wolves swapped Garnett for Thad Young, on top of the 3-team trade. Too many moving pieces for me to keep up. Didn’t mean to let you down this one time, guys.
11 years ago at 1:32 pmAlso, K.J. McDaniels is a SG/SF not a point guard. Do just a little bit of research.

11 years ago at 4:00 pmI control Instagram, Instagram doesn’t control me. If I turn it off none of this matters because none of these fans will get off the couch or crawl out of their parent’s basement or have the money or influence to affect team operations. Instagram is for the poors.

11 years ago at 6:08 pmAs a Philly sports fan, I can admit that we have some stupid fans. Maybe even a few more than your average fan base. But there are always going to be crazies in social media. The majority of us actually respect and understand Hinkie’s long-term thinking and aren’t going off the deep end about this.
