Actually Mexico is due to become our largest trading partner soon. Also tariffs violate our free trade agreement with Mexico, and the WTO would not be happy with any protectionist policies popping up.
They will never out pace China, India unless they find a shit ton more oil there.
It doesn’t matter who it makes unhappy. This is an issue of national security and a trade embargo is a very practice/common way of telling a little bro nation to get its ass in line.
In cars, clothes, food, industrial products, you name it. We trade anything and everything with Mexico. Starting a trade war with them is beyond retarded. Economists from the left and right agree on few things, but the idiocy of high tarriffs is one of them.
Well let’s take a look at some things Mexico has to offer that you can’t really get anywhere else. Avocados, Many variations on tequila that people enjoy, certain types of tobacco, and cheaper labor. Also Nabisco is owned by a Mexican corporation, and I’ll be damned if trump adds a punitive tariff on Tequilla, Oreos, cigars, and guac just so some pseudo-patriotic fucks can feel good about themselves. Less taxes, not more. Trade should not cost money beyond what it takes to pay for the goods you want to import.
No you can get those things somewhere else.PLENTY of other places in fact. You didn’t get his point. Not at all. What’s even more interesting is that you think Mexico has a shit ton of trading partners purely lining up to replace us-probably the world’s biggest market. You think some country like costa rica has the same buying power as us? Now heres the thing to all you closet liberal pussies out there, if there’s anything you need to get from any of this is that we’re the worlds superpower- we are infinitely more important to mexico than they will EVER be to us. What we say will go.
Why the hell do we need tariffs? Cause of “muh trade deficit.” Newsflash bro there’s a strong correlation between U.S. economic growth and an expanding U.S. trade deficit. Money going overseas to buy imports (in excess of exports) comes back to the US in form of investment, and the “trade deficit” is matched by “capital surplus.”
For the life of me I do not understand the GOP obsession with illegal immigration. From an economic standpoint the presence of these illegals here is actually pretty awesome. They mostly do shit jobs that Americans don’t want to do anyway, and for pennies on the dollar. Many of them do pay some taxes but don’t get to collect benefits because of their status. The amount of crime and welfare fraud actually committed by illegals is massively exaggerated and not that significant. Most non-partisan economic studies on this show illegals as a net gain to the economy – driving down consumer prices, slowing the rate of outsourcing, contributing slightly more in taxes than they get back in services, committing crime at about the same rate as the general population and having little negative impact on employment because they take jobs Americans are unwilling to do.
Honestly the best thing for us is status quo. Don’t deport these people and don’t make them citizens either. Just keep things the way they are. We basically have a 11 million slaves doing our dirty work for us for next to nothing. Why fuck that up?
A surprising and pretty cool fact about John Oliver: his wife is a Republican and a United States Army vet who served in the Iraq War as a combat medic from 2003-2006. He met her at the 2008 Republican convention (he was doing coverage for the Daily Show and she was there campaigning with Vets For Freedom). They married in 2011 and have a son together.
Makes what he says even more credible to everyone not supporting Trump. He’s not some liberal fog-breather, he’s an objective observer calling it like he sees it.
Don’t get me wrong I hate Bill Maher but at least he acknowledges the entirety of Islam is a dangerous cult. John Oliver on the other hand talks about how harmless Syrian refugees are.
Earth to Wall haters. Think of a *Wall* as a *Border*. Then try to imagine that it exists, and then try to imagine that we are paying less out of taxpayers’ pockets for criminals, illegals, drug enforcement, prisons, and wages to people who merely repatriate their earnings back to that stinkhole to the South. Now imagine further than dollars are actually fungible, which gives us the ability to say that the savings an actual *border* provided us helped give us the funds to cover the cost of the wall.
If you don’t want a wall, you don’t want a border. No border, no country.
If you don’t want a real country, just move to Mexico yourself and enjoy what they have.
The US absolutely can have Mexico pay for the wall indirectly through tarrifs, taxes. Even fucking lawsuits.
Mexico needs America to survive, not the other way around

10 years ago at 3:44 pmThis isn’t a ‘trade war’. You obviously don’t understand economics.
Mexico doesn’t give us anything we can’t get elsewhere (besides Mexicans)
You also don’t understand the power of having the buyers market.
Increasing trade tarrifs has long been a way for countries with the main power to get what needs to be done.

10 years ago at 7:55 pmI’ve seen him hit both sides of the aisle when they need their bullshit called. It’s just with the republican politicians, when it rains it pours.
