Johnny Football Adds Notch To Belt, Gets Drafted By Globetrotters
Johnny Manziel is putting Jim Thorpe on notice. After being selected by the Cleveland Browns in May’s NFL Draft, Manziel was picked up by the San Diego Padres in the MLB draft earlier this month. Now, he can add basketball to the list, as the Harlem Globetrotters grabbed the eclectic quarterback out of A&M on Tuesday.
I honestly think it’s a great fit for Johnny–he already puts on one hell of a show on and off the football field. Imagine what he could do on the hardwood with four other guys who share the same passion for embarrassing their opponents in unorthodox ways. Let’s not forget that Johnny has been known to throw down a dunk or two in his day, too.
Drafting a guy because he was a multi-sport star in high school reminds me a little of rush. We’ve all signed that rushee because he led his football team to state, was an all-area point guard, and holds the record for doubles hit at his high school. It gives the teams an edge, and you really can’t blame them for drafting Manziel.
With the NBA draft tomorrow and the NHL draft on Friday, Manziel could easily make it five for five in drafts this year. I’m really hoping this happens.
