Join Us For A Day Of Golf To Support A Great Cause

“Even a bad day on the course is better than a good day in class.”

The old golf adage goes something like that, doesn’t it? Or is it “Even a bad day on the course is better than a good day in the office?” They both work really, but the takeaway is a day golfing is better than a day not golfing. It holds true too, even for those who regularly curse their games and sometimes feel inclined to challenge the theory.

A day spent golfing and supporting a worthwhile cause, though, now that’s something even your most miserable golfing buddies — talking about on-course abilities and mental incapacity of sucking — can get behind. Before I tell you about the cause we will be supporting, some background is due.

A great friend of mine, who is from Austin but was residing in Florida at the time, was in Austin this past December visiting his family for Christmas. One night while in town, he, along with his younger brother and friends, went to the downtown Austin bar district to enjoy a night out. At the end of the night, they chose responsibly and hailed a taxi cab to ensure a safe ride home. He hopped in with his brother and another friend, and they headed for home.

On the way, the cab’s engine failed while driving on the highway. They pulled off the road and onto the shoulder. Moments later, the cab was struck by a drunk driver. My friend’s younger brother and friend were injured in the accident, the brother worse than the friend, but they are both well on their ways to full recoveries, thankfully. My friend wasn’t so lucky.

His vertebral column was broken in multiple places from the collision, and he underwent immediate surgery to repair the damage. He currently is without the use of his legs. To say he is paralyzed from the chest down is inaccurate, because he was recently able to move his toes and feet for the first time since the accident. His recovery is sure to be long and arduos. He’s a fighter, but there is no guarantee of him regaining full use of his legs.

My friend is Matthew Price — a proud Texas A&M and Kappa Alpha Order alumnus. More to the point, he’s an incredible person and deserving of the best treatment possible. My friends and I are helping to make sure this happens.

The Event

We are hosting a fundraiser to benefit Matthew and his family — a golf tournament that includes a dinner and silent auction afterward. The Price Classic will be held Friday, June 7 at the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, TX.

The format is a four-member team scramble, and prizes will be given to the teams that earn them on the course. A few other exciting giveaways will be handed out for the longest drive and closest to the pin challenges. Plus, a car will be given away for a hole-in-one on one of the par threes. The TFM staff will also be on hand, and we’d really like to meet you, some of you. If you play and can beat our score (honestly, this should be very easy to do), we’ll make it worth your while.

Most importantly, though, we will be supporting an awesome cause.
