Jordan Spieth’s Caddy Is Probably Extremely Happy He Gave Up Being A 6th Grade Teacher For Life On Tour
In 2006, a sixth grade math and physics teacher, Michael Greller, was taking in and enjoying the US Amateur Public Links Championship when he saw a kid carrying his own clubs. Greller could have done what many others surely did and thought, “Poor kid has to lug around his own bag,” let five minutes pass, completely forget about that kid, and moved on with his life. He didn’t do that. Instead, he hopped the ropes and caddied for the youngster the rest of the tournament.
From Yahoo:
He kept at it as something of a hobby, and in 2011 he found himself carrying Spieth’s bag in the US Junior Amateur. When Spieth turned pro in 2013, he asked Greller to leave his real job and work for him.
Greller told Jason Sobel of the Golf Channel in 2013 that he initially intended to take a one-year sabbatical from school. But while watching the 2013 Masters, he decided he did not want to give up an opportunity to help Spieth win a green jacket one day.
Yeah Greller, I’m sure you were really chomping at the bit to get back to teaching America’s hopeless youth for a shit salary and tenure. It had nothing to do with Jordan being a certified cash cow, right? You just made $375,000 in the last thirty days, or in teacher’s terms, a decade of earnings.
Let’s also not forget that being a caddy for a big time golfer ranks as hands down the best profession on the planet across the board. It’s not even up for debate. Not only are you taking in up to ten percent of a player’s winnings, but you’re part of the exclusive and nonstop fiesta that is tour life and are the beneficiary of top notch country club trickle down poontang on a daily basis.
You reap almost all the benefits of being a PGA Tour player and you don’t have to deal with any of the mind-numbing pressure that comes with performing against the world’s elite. You just have to haul the equipment, be literate enough to read a sprinkler head, subject yourself to wearing a giant white jumpsuit, and be a generally tolerable individual.
Now, I know a few of the tour players are fans of this site (I’m looking at you John Peterson) and yes, I’m very much for hire..

11 years ago at 5:47 pmIt ranges from 5, 7, and 10. Generally 10 is for a winner’s purse.
11 years ago at 5:55 pmWouldn’t actually being that golfer be the best profession in the world? I mean a caddy makes bank but nothing compared to the guy swinging the clubs.
