KA Nationals Ban Chapters From Using Traditional “Old South” Themed Formal
The Kappa Alpha Order started the Old South Ball tradition in 1939 at Mercer University. It was inspired by the release of the classic film “Gone With the Wind” and served as a celebration of the fraternity’s southern roots. Girls get fucking STOKED to get all dolled up in those brightly colored, ridiculously large Victorian dresses with hoop skirts, giant floppy Southern belle hats, and — for the overachievers — those useless lace umbrellas that serve virtually no purpose other than to look more regal. Seriously, they love it.
Overall, it’s a typical formal weekend to commemorate KA’s principles of courtesy, graciousness, and open hospitality. So essentially a weekend where you get blown while wearing a paisley ascot and top hat.
But since this was the attire that was commonplace during a really shitty time period for a certain group of people, it’s obviously offensive and needs to be stopped. Nationals have taken the politically correct steps and banned chapters from using the “Old South” name and theme for any fraternity function moving forward.
Quick KAs, you still got a week to squeeze in all your antebellum plantation fetishes.
Old South actually translates to “whites are the superior race” in Latin. That’s just common knowledge. Everyone in a seersucker suit uncontrollably calls all minorities “boy.” The fabric just turns even the most tolerant person into an enormous bigot. Thankfully, nationals stepped in and put the kibosh on this Clark Gable tribute party. Can’t risk a few people looking for something to get offended about get offended over anything related to your organization. Forget tradition, just stay off the P.C. police’s radar..

9 years ago at 9:00 amliberals are ruining this country
9 years ago at 8:07 amBecause you can be proud of your heritage as long as you’re not white
9 years ago at 8:11 amNothing wrong about being proud of your heritage, however it’s okay to not be proud of the part of your heritage that was super racist and believed in segregation. And whites aren’t the only ones who can’t be proud… Browns have a tough time also. Imagine if a Muslim frat had “Allah Is Great formal weekend”. Only black people can say things like “black power” and no one thinks twice, all other races seem to subjugated to some sort of criticism for being proud of their heritage
9 years ago at 8:26 amThen the NAACP is racist too you fuckstain.
9 years ago at 8:36 amNever said I disagreed with that, I even said black people get away with it
9 years ago at 8:44 amI’m pretty sure he was saying they are, just that they get away with it more.
9 years ago at 1:38 pmI lost brain cells reading your bullshit

9 years ago at 12:42 pmIf the Confederacy was about maintaining white supremacy, why did the 5 civilized tribes (The Nations) not only ally with The South, but send many to fight wearing Confederate uniforms? Interestingly enough, the last Confederate General to surrender was a Cherokee Indian named Stand Watie. Also, why did thousands of Tejanos join the Confederate Army, many serving in Hood’s Brigade, and many serving as officers? Or how about the Hispanics from Spanish colonies including Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Mexicans (estimated upwards of 10,000) who came to the south to fight for The Confederacy?
9 years ago at 3:14 pmAlso, let’s not forget that the only reason Lincoln emancipated slaves in the rebellious states (slavery was still legal in 5 Federally controlled states and territories) was to insure the Confederacy would not get support from staunchly anti slavery Britain and France. Such support could have changed the outcome, or at least lengthened the war. Lincoln himself said his primary objective was to preserve The Union, not fight to end slavery. And General US Grant, the so-called Great Emancipator, was a slave supervisor and owner.
9 years ago at 3:27 pmThe fact is less than 10% of Southerners even owned slaves. With that in mind, saying the War for Southern Independence was fought for slavery is the same level of stupidity as saying anyone who enlisted after 9/11 fought for Halliburton.
9 years ago at 3:35 pmIn fairness there was a draft that forced quite a few Confederate soldiers to fight that probably didn’t want too. Overall you are correct though. Especially considering a large portion of that 10% if slave owners were wealthy and could pay the fee to get out of the draft. That other 90% was fighting for something that wasn’t slavery, even if many didn’t have a choice.
9 years ago at 4:05 pmOkay point taken. By the way I said blacks were racist, it’s just that they get away with it.
9 years ago at 6:39 pmEvidence please?
9 years ago at 11:06 pmWow, next they are gonna change our spiritual founder from Robert E. Lee to Martin Luther King
9 years ago at 8:21 amAbsurd
9 years ago at 8:55 amNext thing ya know they’re going to tell us to let people into our parties when they don’t know anyone here.
9 years ago at 9:24 amThey should change the name to the “New South” and just dress/act like liberals while sitting in a safe place while getting offended at everything. I’m not even a KA and this pisses me off. I’ve always thought “Old South” was one of the coolest concepts. Bastards.
9 years ago at 9:24 amIs nothing fucking sacred anymore?
9 years ago at 11:38 amJust another example of the fleecing of the South. The liberals are hard at work to turn our nation inside out. The fight isn’t coming–it’s here now.
9 years ago at 9:45 amBased on the amount of girls I know that will hook up with a KA just for a date to this, I honestly feel bad for these guys
9 years ago at 9:58 amCan they call it Old North and wear the same things? We all know the North never had slaves so that should be ok.
