Kent State Graduate Goes Sun’s Out, Guns Out For Viral Graduation Photo

In 2018, college graduates tend to go one of two routes with their graduations photos. They either a) pose for a few tasteful shots so that they can post the pics up on Instagram and Facebook, add in a clever or heartfelt hashtag and a few emojis, and rack up some likes from college friends and family members, or b) go balls-to-the-wall with their pics — whether that be through a crazy cap design or various props — with the intent of going viral in some capacity.

Well, it looks like Kent State graduate Kaitlin Bennett opted for the latter option when she went full sun’s out, guns out for her graduation pics.

Kent State graduate Kaitlin Bennett went viral over the weekend with a gun-toting photo.

The student posed with a rifle following graduation and had a very blunt message for any naysayers on her graduation cap, “Come and Take it.”

Now that I graduated from @KentState, I can finally arm myself on campus. I should have been able to do so as a student- especially since 4 unarmed students were shot and killed by the government on this campus. #CampusCarryNow pic.twitter.com/a91fQH44cq

Bennett is the founder of a gun advocacy organization, Liberty Hangout. The website says the group promotes peace, prosperity and property rights since 2015.

Bennett said she waited until after graduation to post the picture due to school regulations.

Kent State has a policy barring students, staff and faculty from carrying guns on campus.

Her post was met with mixed reactions, as some thought they’d seen enough of firearms on campuses with all the recent school shootings in the U.S.

We’re not going to get into a whole gun rights debate here or a discussion about whether or not this was a bananas move. Instead, I will say that this has to be one of the more interesting ways to make a fashion statement.

Oh, and if you ever forget that you have a Twitter, just post a picture of yourself with a rifle about the size of your body and that should help you remember real quick.
