Kentucky Football Player Arrested For Trafficking A Boatload Of Weed And Just A Smidge Of Cocaine
Should college athletes be paid? That’s the age old question. I’m not sure I know the answer, but I do know this: people who are properly compensated for their work typically don’t need to sell drugs on the side.
College athletes’ lack of a monetary income is why people like Kentucky linebacker Marcus Walker are left to make their own money in the little time they have away from team activities. So what do Marcus and some others do to help pay the bills? Sling that shit until they get caught — and caught Marcus was.
From Lexington Herald Leader:
A University of Kentucky football player was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with trafficking marijuana and cocaine, according to court records.
Marcus Walker, a 21-year-old junior safety from Lake Wales, Fla., was arrested at 4:40 a.m. Thursday by Lexington Police. He was allegedly trafficking in about 5 pounds of marijuana and 4 grams of cocaine, his arrest citation said. He was also charged with possessing drug paraphernalia.
A large amount of cash was also found when Lexington Police executed its search warrant at a home on Unity Drive, police said.
We’ve advanced so far as a society that I forget sometimes that marijuana is illegal. Smoking weed used to be a covert operation, but now I feel comfortable lighting up pretty much anywhere. Maybe this is my privileged white male speaking, but I honestly don’t think a police officer would give me the time of day if I toked up in his face. It just doesn’t seem worth the time or resources.

But they find you with five pounds of that good shit? Well at that point, you’re sort of forcing their hand. That, coupled with the coke, and now Marcus has some problems.
Here’s to hoping that the judge is reasonable, because this seems like a pretty open-and-shut case. What should be another open-and-shut case? Pay the players so they don’t have to sell drugs on the side..

Oh yeah selling drugs was absolutely his only alternative to being paid as a player.
