KU Sigma Chi Throws Rager, Sets House on Fire

^^^ So, when this was posted yesterday, my dumbass didn’t make the connection that it was a real life story. But it is, and it’s a great one. The Sigma Chis at the University of Kansas let a rager escalate a little too quickly. It resulted in a fire.

Crews were called to the Sigma Chi fraternity house at 1600 Tennessee St. about 4 p.m. after people reported seeing smoke. Because of the red flag warning that was in effect, firefighters took the call to a third alarm, bringing in fire crews from Overland Park, Lenexa and Olathe. Everyone was able to safely evacuate, firefighters said. The house has a fire alarm and sprinklers installed, though the sprinklers did not go off.

Great to hear everyone made it out safely and good to hear the house suffered minimal damage, but not surprised to hear the sprinklers weren’t working properly. It is a fraternity house, after all. “But did they really play the Billy Joel hit song, We Didn’t Start the Fire?” Yes, they did. There is a video in the linked article for the full re-cap, but here’s a quote from the nice-looking reporter lady:

“Tonight since we’ve been out here, we’ve seen a couple students allowed back inside this house, and they’ve been playing fire-themed songs tonight like Billy Joel’s Ring of Fire (Billy Joel, Johnny Cash – fuck it, same guy right?) and We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

Well done.

This is ridiculous. The fire started during construction at around 4pm. There was no party. These are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed.
