KU Suspends Seven Athletes For Creating Finstas And Not Telling The University

Here we go. The Jayhawks be all up on their bullshit again.

The University of Kansas has reportedly suspended seven rowers after discovering the student-athletes made Finsta accounts — fake Instagram accounts — without telling the university about them. That’s a crime supposedly worthy of the highest degree of punishment: A suspension and investigation that goes on and on and on and on.

From The Kansan:

In an email sent to the seven rowers on April 12 by Kansas coach Carrie Cook-Callen and provided to the Kansan, the rowers were accused of violating section 501 of the Kansas Athletics Policies and Procedures Manual. Among several other prohibited behaviors on social media that include showing use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs on social media, section 501 of the manual states, “I will not create fake or alias social media accounts. I understand that any information placed on any social media site is a reflection of me, my team, Kansas Athletics and the University of Kansas.”

The pair of rowers also revealed that while only seven rowers are being investigated, the coaches and Kansas Athletics are aware of 30-plus girls on the team who have alias social media accounts.

Hell, if I went to Kansas, I’d try to not be associated with the university too. But hey, look at the bright side: Kansas athletics made the newspaper, and for once it’s not about how bad the football team is. A win is a win!

These athletics social media policies are somewhat perplexing to me. A Fresno State professor keeps her job after cheering for the death of Barbara Bush, but over half a dozen rowers get suspended for doing what college students do. Kevin Durant didn’t get a single punishment for his fake social media accounts, yet we’re out unfairly prosecuting helpless college students. And don’t even get me started on Meek Mill’s unjust prison sentence. Glad The Meek is finally back out.

Do you know how much professional rowers make? Do you even know if there are professional rowers? Because I don’t. That’s why we shouldn’t make life unfairly hard for these athletes. They’ve got it hard enough.

I’m highly curious what these burner accounts looked like and if they’re still up. If they are, drop me a line on Twitter for investigative journalism purposes. I hope they’re extremely benign — like pictures of puppies or community service — and not like Instagram “model” accounts.

The rowers probably accused football/basketball players of rape again so KU had to suspend them.

Rowing is the oldest collegiate sport and probably one of the most difficult. Plus most schools that have rowing programs can easily afford them.

Rowing is gay. Real boats have motors or sails. Also, Kansas ain’t easily affording shit. They probably paddle in a flooded corn field.
