“You see every drink of liquor you take kills a thousand brain cells. Now that doesn’t much matter ‘cos we got billions more.”

Savannah, Georgia’s own, played by Matt Damon in The Legend of Bagger Vance, Rannulph Junuh is a military man turned drinking fiend following his tour in World War I. Luckily for him, he dates the beautiful Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron), who sets up a match between Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, attempting to recover her family’s lost wealth from the Great Depression. Junuh is asked to play on behalf of local interest, and at first blows his girlfriend’s idea off, because he’s too busy drinking.

After struggling with his war-demons and futile attempts to pick the game up again, Rudolph is befriended by a mysterious and wishful thinking Bagger Vance, who takes his game to a whole new level when he becomes his caddy. Offering unmatched insight and advice, Vance (Will Smith) propels Junuh to mature both as a player and gentleman, in preparation for his showdown with Jones and Hagen.

With the Bagger’s advice, Junuh is able to play alongside and compete with two of golf’s most legendary over the two-day match. Then, just as fast as he appeared, Bagger Vance vanishes when Junuh is set to take to the 18th hole to culminate his last round. Remembering all he’s learned, the inspired Damon sinks a near impossible putt for a birdie, which Jones had previously missed. In the face of adversity and improbability, the match results in a gentleman’s draw.

Get a load of the epic scene (Bobby Jones is just making par):

Having messed up his relationship with Adele due to his pervasive, yet commendable drinking habits prior to the match, he obviously gets back together with her after his stellar showing.

Nice move, Junuh.

I do. It was literally the ONLY link I could find with that epic scene. Plus, there’s no dialogue in that putt sinking sequence anyway.

Anyone else posting up on the couch tomorrow and watching the Masters all day? Damn, I’m so excited.

If you haven’t been at the driving range and try a happy Gilmore and just completely whiff your lying.

The player/caddy relationship between Rannulph Junuh and Bagger Vance is just so perfectly racist.
