Goths call us conformists. Hipsters call us mainstream. PETA calls us cruel. Environmentalists call us close-minded. Feminists call us womanizers. Socialists call us greedy. Liberals call us ignorant. But despite all this, society calls us successful. TFM.
Goths are conformists. Hipsters are mainstream. Nobody likes PETA, including environmentalists. You can be FAF and an environmentalist–about half of our fraternities and sororities here have volunteered at an organic farm which sponsers therapy/rehabilitation for the handicapped. I don’t think fraternity men are womanizers. Do what you want as long as you’re not groping or raping somebody. I can cook and sew, but I’m also going to graduate with triple honors. Philanthropy means giving back. It only differs from socialism in that it isn’t run by the government. Some Greeks are greedy, some aren’t; it’s their choice. I’m not rich, but there’s nothing more American than building yourself up from the bottom like the Pilgrims did. I’d like for everyone else to have the same opportunity. I am and will continue to be successful.
You cannot compare Socialism and Philanthropy, it’s like comparing mandatory and voluntary, literally. Environmentalists, as I’m referring to them, are overly vocal political activists who vehemently point fingers at anyone who drives anything over a V6. They are very different from environmentally conscious people. And I know that not all Greeks are greedy. That was the point of this post, no matter what stereotype people try to blanket us with, the Greeks are undoubtedly successful.
I realize that one is mandatory and one is voluntary, but since I plan to give either way I don’t particularly care how it’s done if everyone gets what they need (e.g., food, shelter, education, etc.). It seems that we’re on the same page so long as you’re okay with me being a poor, socially liberal, politically ambiguous, environmentally conscious sorority woman who also loves America, hunting, baking, pearls, beer, and classiness.
The pilgrims, i.e. puritans were actually fairly well off, so using them as evidence for your argument is incorrect. The only reason why it seems as if they had to “build themselves up from the bottom up” is because their wasn’t an urban society present like the one they had left behind back in England. Know your history.
The problem with government redistribution is that the government controls it. It’s my damn money, I should be able to spend it or give it any way I want. I never said I wanted you to be poor. As a fellow Greek, I’d like for you to be successful because I want the Greek system to excel, and as a fellow American, I’d like for you to prosper because that’s the American dream, WORK hard and you HAVE THE CHANCE to make it.
this has got to be in the Top 3 best TFMs of all time. Well done, this site needs more stuff like this for sure.
