LSU Shreveport’s New Mascot Looks Like If Oscar The Grouch Mainlined Nightmare Fuel

Following LSU’s upset loss to Troy last weekend, the Tigers have found themselves in a less-than-ideal situation as they fade further and further away from SEC contention and Ed Orgeron squirms around in the hot seat like a bobcat on a hot tin roof (I’m not exactly sure what that means, but it sounds like something they would say in Louisiana). All things considered, the LSU faithful could use somewhat of a pick-me-up.

Well, it turns out that LSU Shreveport recently pulled its weight as a branch institution and answered the call in the form of a new mascot, which kind of looks like what would happen if a shit ton of grass clippings threw on a T-shirt and went on a month-long crack binge.

Considering that the school’s supposed to be the LSUS Pilots, this latest update obviously doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The school’s previous mascot was Pete the Pilot, who, according to my ride-or-die news source Wikipedia, “is a combination of steamboat pilot and pelican, which is the state bird of Louisiana.”

Honestly, though, the swamp monster approach is without a doubt the right call. When you think of Louisiana, you think bayou. You think gators and all those other murky pond creatures that will pull you into the water and murder the fuck out of you. A pelican steamboat captain? That’s Disney Channel meets Gilligan’s Island. And we all know that, if anything, Louisiana is more Discovery Channel meets Syfy Channel original movie.

With all this talk of “draining the swamp,” you’ve got to respect LSU Shreveport’s move of living that swamp life to the fullest..
