LSU AGR Gets Cranked In Head With Bottle By Rival Frat On Bid Night, Says It’s Just “Boys Being Boys”

Bids were handed out on Sunday at Louisiana State University, and the Greek community flocked to the bars on Monday night to celebrate, as is tradition down there. While celebrating with his fraternity brothers at a bar, Brandon Roy was hit over the head with a beer bottle by a member of another fraternity.

A member of IFC told The Daily Reveille, the student newspaper at LSU, that Roy was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho. In a Facebook message obtained by the paper, a member of Theta Xi said one of his brothers was responsible for dealing the blow.

Theta Xi brother Brian Norman, Jr. wrote, “…these pictures showed up in a GroupMe that I’m in with guys from a bunch of different chapters as well as guys that are on [Interfraternity Council] exec,” Norman wrote. “They know it was a Theta Xi.”

The images of the hit are pretty fucking brutal, but all Roy had to say about it was “It’s boys being boys.” As for the social media attention? “I’m not really letting it bother me,” he said.

Tuesday the LSU Greek community photos circulated of Roy ¬¬— arms limp at his sides, turning the crisp white sheets of an emergency room crimson as his blood flooded the tiled floor.

“It’s boys being boys,” Roy said.

While celebrating with Alpha Gamma Rho Monday night, Roy was hit over the head with a beer bottle by a member of another fraternity.

The resulting gash sent him to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where he received stitches before returning to New Orleans to recuperate with family.

According to a member of Pi Kappa Phi, fights are common on bid night, and it’s easy to see why. Stick a bunch of brothers from competing fraternities in a room together, add a ton of alcohol and some freshman strange, and shit’s gonna hit the fan.

Mass communication sophomore Drew White, a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, said violence between fraternities happens on boys’ bid night.

“It just sucks because you’re out with your buddies looking for a good time and then fraternity rivalries get in the way and you see your pledge brothers just get beat senseless to the point where they’re unconscious,” White said.

White said his pledge brother was beat unconscious by bouncers and members of another fraternity on bid night after being asked to leave.

“I mean, I had buddies there was just blood everywhere it seemed like,” White said. “There were brawls breaking out like all over the place.”

Brandon is the fucking man. Dude gets gashed in the head that violently, bleeds all over the place, then shrugs it off like it’s nothing.

He could have easily been enraged by his attacker’s cowardly move to reach for a bottle in a fistfight, especially since his wound indicates a cheap shot from behind. He could have headed to the bar the next day, looked at the security camera footage, and pressed charges, which would have likely gotten the rival fraternity in serious trouble. But naw, son. Brandon ate that shit like a champ, because he knows if he exposed the negligent decision of one brother, the entire rival fraternity would have gone down. And Brandon knows the importance of fraternity rivalries.

Sure, sometimes things get out of hand, but if you don’t have a rival, whose house letters are you going to send a team of pledges to steal under cover of darkness? Who are you going to fight at tailgate to impress chicks? That kind of respect for your rivals – even when one of them ruined your bid night – is seriously commendable..
