I’ve known a few guys with last names like Smith or Johnson, and they’ve dated girls with the same last name as them. When you think about it, that probably isn’t too uncommon. With as many people out there who have last names as ubiquitous as those, it’s bound to happen. But what about two people with the same fairly rare last name dating? That has to be pretty unheard of, right? Take it a step further. Can you think of two people, one male and one female, who’ve dated and shared the same first and last name? I can.

In Tom Verducci’s profile of Madison Bumgarner in Sports Illustrated for the publication’s Sportsman of the Year award, some interesting information came to light. Madison Bumgarner, pitcher extraordinaire, dated a woman named Madison Bumgarner.

The odds of that happening have to be astronomically low. Think of how few male Madison Bumgarners there are. Think about how many female Madison Bumgarners there are. Then factor in the odds of two of them meeting, finding each other attractive, and being compatible enough with each other to date. That’s borderline miraculous.

Now, I’m sure a lot of you are reading this and laughing at Bumgarner for dating Bumgarner, as that is hilarious on several levels, but, according to the baseball playing Bumgarner, there was “no relation.”

Still, you have to wonder, did Madison Bumgarner ever get weirded out by fucking Madison Bumgarner?.
