Major College Football Attendance Drops To Lowest Point In 14 Years: See Where Your School Landed

Where Did Your School Rank Among The Most Attended College Football Teams This Season?

It’s been a bad year for the University of Michigan. There was the whole athletic director situation mess, Brady Hoke, and, of course, the slapdick team that played each week. Now we can add one more slap in the face to the football program at Michigan: its 16-year run of being atop the leaders for attendance among college football teams. To top it off, the Wolverines’ bitter rivals, Ohio State, knocked them from number one. Ouch.

Overall, attendance fell among all FBS schools, dropping about four percent from last season. The good folks at CBS Sports–I’m not talking about Verne or Gary–compiled a list of all FBS schools ranked by their attendance. Here are the top 10:

1. Ohio State – 106,296

2. Texas A&M – 105,123

3. Michigan – 104,909

4. LSU – 101,723

5. Penn State – 101,623

6. Alabama – 101,534

7. Tennessee – 99,754

8. Texas – 94,103

9. Georgia – 92,746

10. Nebraska – 91,249

There is a lot of Big Ten and SEC flavor in that top 10. Two of the four playoff teams landed in the top ten; Florida State came in at 14 and Oregon is all the way down at 31. This is proof that history, prestige, and building big-ass stadiums are important when it comes to getting fans in the stands. USC came in at 21, making it the only school to house one of the 10 largest stadiums in the country to not make the list. This is why these schools are the money makers of college football.

Poor UAB beat out 36 other programs and had a 107 percent increase in attendance this season only to see its program shut down. Pour one out for those guys tonight.

Just because certain stadiums don’t have the capacity as the schools on this list, doesn’t mean the other stadiums didn’t sell out. Your logic is retarded.

Georgia Southern up 42% in their first year as an FBS program (granted they got a huge stadium upgrade), going undefeated in their conference and the nation’s #1 rushing offense. Total horseshit they were left out of a bowl.

Fuck off. Everyone knew they weren’t allowed to play in the post season before the first kickoff this year.

Jesus H. Christ if I have to hear another, “it’s bullshit that we have to follow the rules we knew about before this season,” sob story, then I’m going to have an aneurysm. Y’all are just as irrelevant as you were before, in fact, the Sun Belt may be more irrelevant than the FCS.

Keep in mind that many of these stadiums have undergone changes in seating in order to make luxury boxes.
