Michigan Fraternity Kicked Off Campus For Attempting To Merge With Rogue Fraternity
Last Wednesday night, IFC at the University of Michigan decided to ban Delta Kappa Epsilon for associating with SIG, a current rogue fraternity on campus. DKE was hoping to merge with SIG in an attempt to grow their chapter size. IFC would have none of it and voted to kick them off campus.
From MLive:
At least two-thirds of the fraternity presidents voted to expel the group because it had tried to merge with a group now known as SIG, Krupiak said.
SIG was once affiliated with U-M and the national fraternity Delta Sigma Phi. The national chapter closed the group in 2002 because of “high-risk behavior and failed obligations to the national organization.” The Office of Greek Life said it continues to receive complaints about the group.
SIG apparently has a nasty history of hazing allegations and getting generally rowdy on the reg. DKE’s HQ is located in Ann Arbor, so I have a feeling that Nationals wasn’t too pleased with this, either.
DKE’s president was clearly shaken by the incident and wrote the following email to the Ann Arbor News, which MLive obtained.
“We, the brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon, are tremendously disappointed with the result of (the) interfraternity council meeting. It was, and still is, our belief that the right to choose our own members is a crucial part of self-governance,” he wrote in the email.
“We will appeal this decision and believe that we have a strong case. The fact that the IFC came to this decision without a precipitating incident is extremely disheartening and calls into question the motives and values of the member chapters.”
DKE could be facing four years of not being on campus if they do not win the appeal. Now the only question that remains is: Should they go the route that the SIGs took and go rogue? There are pros and cons to that..

In about 20 years every chapter of every fraternity will either have to go rogue or perish

10 years ago at 11:13 amFuck me, I needed some laps to work off this weekend’s drinks anyway.
10 years ago at 11:14 amI’ll add another option to that: They’ll be forced to make women members. But that’s pretty much the same thing as perishing in my book.

10 years ago at 11:07 amGo rogue and make America great again.
10 years ago at 11:07 amSo first time since 1855 DKE has associated with a Sig?
10 years ago at 11:10 amEvery chapter secretly wants to do what SIG did. Screw international..
10 years ago at 11:19 amIt’s national you fuck, go back to studying algebra and reading catcher in the rye in fourth period study hall.
10 years ago at 12:02 pmGood move, Michigan. You made the rogue merge much easier.
10 years ago at 11:37 amDidn’t read it, but isn’t that kind of a good thing if they’re trying to merge with a rogue?
10 years ago at 11:38 amNext time maybe try reading the article instead of making a dumb ass comment such as this.
10 years ago at 11:56 amLooks like I’m winning right now, bud.
10 years ago at 12:29 pmI don’t know how I feel about your name
10 years ago at 12:27 amI made it 3 years ago when I was just an oblivious high school frat star senior year. I realize it sucks, but have yet to find a way to change it. So I embrace it. TACCCCS
10 years ago at 1:10 pmEloquently accusing someone of having an ulterior motive when they disagree with you. TFM.
10 years ago at 11:53 amI hope these guys win their appeal because this is horseshit. The day the IFC tells me which members I can add to my chapter is the day I will choke the IFC President’s Goober ass with my croakies
10 years ago at 12:03 pmYou should probably do that anyways. We all know IFC presidents are just a bunch of virgins and child molesters. Hang the sex offenders, sacrifice the virgins to the manifest destiny duck, and shut down the abomination that is IFC.
10 years ago at 4:19 pmFraternities sole reason for starting so we can hangout with friends with the people WE choose too not IFC. That’s a very slippery slope IFC is treading on if they continue down that road.
