Michigan Sigma Alpha Mu Permanently Disbanded By Nationals After Ski Resort Incident

A few months ago, Sigma Alpha Mu (and a few other chapters) from Michigan did some hefty damage on the Treetops Resort in Gaylord to the tune of $430,000 — nearly nine times what the hotel manager originally estimated. The incident resulted in Sigma Alpha Mu and the sorority Sigma Delta Tau being placed on disciplinary suspension for their role in the destructive weekend. All in all, the formal looked like a great time if we’re being honest.

Unfortunately, the party has stopped for these guys. Their national organization permanently disbanded the fraternity on Tuesday, not only for the damages they caused, but apparently also for failing to take responsibility.

From USA Today:

The University of Michigan’s Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity has been permanently disbanded by its parent organization for not only wrecking a northern Michigan resort but also for not stepping up and facing the music.

“It is regrettable that these vandals, as well as the officers of the chapter, decided that avoiding personal accountability and/or university sanctions took priority over the welfare of the entire chapter; their lack of cooperation led to the university’s withdrawal of recognition of the entire chapter for a four-year period. Sigma Alpha Mu worked in cooperation with university officials and regretfully agreed with their request to close the chapter,” executive director Leland Manders wrote in a statement.

Look, I’m not one to give advice, but when you’ve got nationals and the university breathing down your neck, you jump through hoops to ensure that y’all get hit with the most minimal consequence. There are bigger battles to be won. We’re losing a lot of good men out there.

So let me get this straight. Sammy gets totally disbanded by nationals but SDT gets a slap on the wrist with a “disciplinary suspension”. If this isn’t the definition of double standard then I don’t know what is.

SDT will most likely fall apart either way, but yeah that’s fucked.

Which one’s more likely to get angry over a large financial cost? My nose is pointing to the Jew frat.
