Minnesota SAE Suspended For Doing Pretty Much Every Bad Thing A Fraternity Could Possibly Do

Minnesota SAE Suspended Over Multiple Infractions

Back in March, the University of Minnesota received a complaint about the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter on campus. After investigating the claims, the school has decided to suspend the chapter for more than a year. The ruling came down last Thursday.

From CBS Minnesota:

The nature of the complaint includes harm to person, disorderly conduct, illegal or unauthorized possession or use of drugs or alcohol, providing alcohol to minors, thefts or property damage or vandalism, and hazing.

When SAE will allowed to come back to campus is not known for sure, but the return will come with extended probation as well as education requirements. What exactly are “education requirements?” I don’t know, but I assume they’re talking about sensitivity training and all that bullshit. Lame.

Nationals had this to say about the incident:

The Sigma Alpha Epsilon headquarters has received the notice detailing the University of Minnesota’s loss of recognition of our Minnesota Alpha chapter. Currently, our leadership is working to determine the next steps, which likely will involve strong sanctions for the group. We will not tolerate behavior or actions that deviate from our values and mission or those that jeopardize the well-being of our members. Sigma Alpha Epsilon maintains stringent guidelines and expectations though our health & safety program, and our leaders do not hesitate to take immediate action when guidelines are not followed properly.

At the same time, we are committed to working with university administrators because we value our partnership with them. And, much like UM, we require our members to live up to a code of conduct that sustains strong ethical standards, both on campus and in our communities.

It seems like every day brings a new suspended chapter. What do you say we buck that trend?

The fact that nationals isn’t closing them on the spot says something. Usually the two go hand in hand, but nationals continuing to recognize reeks of BS on the school’s part.

They forced a pledge to drink a ton of liquor, and he went to the hospital. The parents sued, and the school suspended them. Also a bunch of the members went around tipping over scaffolding for the homecoming parade at other fraternities. So fuck them.

As a chapter they went out and tipped over scaffolding? Says nothing about that in the University’s article

I’m tired of seeing Nationals ditch their very own members instead of defending them, I’m not saying they should have in this situation but it seems if any university has a circus court investigation, the first group to completely comply and side with the university and hang their own members out to dry are the Nationals. It seems more like a for profit business than a brotherhood nowadays.
