Minor Leaguer Hits First Home Run Of The Season, His Dad Catches It
A couple years ago, Conrad Gregor was a star baseball player at Vanderbilt University. Now, he is an infielder for the Quad Cities River Bandits, which is a minor league team in the Houston Astros’ system.
Saturday, Gregor had a special fan watching him play from the outfield porch at Modern Woodmen Park. His father was in town on a family trip and decided to watch his son take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels. While batting late in the game, Gregor launched a three-run home run over the right-center field fence to give the River Bandits the lead.
Normally, this wouldn’t be anything special. However, Gregor just so happened to hit the ball directly to his dad, who had been sitting just past the fence the entire game. As the ball neared the wall, Gregor’s dad and another fan stood up anticipating it. With a brilliant over the shoulder, Willie Mays-esque catch, Gregor’s dad brought in his son’s first home run of the season, saving the ball from the depths of the Mississippi River.
Being a stereotypically superstitious baseball player, Gregor said his dad may have to watch every game from that spot.
From Quad-City Times:
“He may have to watch every game from out there,’’ Gregor said. “It’s a little unbelievable, but I’m glad my parents were here to see it and when I got back to the dugout, I heard he made a pretty good catch.’’
Live it up now, Conrad. Keep hitting bombs like that and you may end up in an Astros uniform fairly soon. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

10 years ago at 2:01 pmKinda like when Evan Gattis’ dad was being interviewed in Evan’s first game and he bombed one while his dad was mic’d up. “There he goes…”
