More George W. Bush Paintings Revealed
As we’ve previously discussed on the site, former President George W. Bush has taken up painting in his retirement and, if I may editorialize, has gotten quite good at it.
Although I’m not by any means an advocate for the type of email hacking that first brought these paintings into the public view, they have shown us a whole new side of the 43rd President that just makes me want to share a beer with him all the more.
The only real problem with the first batch of Bush paintings was that there were so few. Now, as if Dubya himself was responding to our demands, more paintings have come to light.
Among them are a couple of nice landscapes and still lifes which illustrate Dubya’s growing command of the use of shadow and lighting. Also, who doesn’t appreciate a good golf course painting?
Also included in the selection are a couple of paintings of dogs, an animal subject matter that is second only to horses, which Dubya also tried his hand at.
Finally, in possibly the deepest piece of the selection, is a painting of a tired looking dog staring longingly towards the White House separated by thick black bars.
Could this be a representation for how Dubya feels being out of the White House? Sad and longing? If so, I think it’s fair to say that we’re all right there with you, Pres.
I also like how he’s started signing his paintings with “43,” so we know it’s him. If he ever starts selling these, what I wouldn’t give to have an authentic 43 painting above my mantle.
