MTSU’s Sigma Pi Suspended For Completely Harmless Welcome Banner

Banner comedy is officially dead, or at least suspended indefinitely.

A day after Old Dominion’s Sigma Nu caused some controversy with some “sexually suggestive” banners hung in front of their house, a Middle Tennessee State University fraternity has taken down a sign that briefly hung in front of their house as well.

The banner outside of MTSU’s Sigma Pi read: “Freshman Girls Info Center” — and that’s hilarious.

Apparently not hilarious to their nationals, though, who suspended the fraternity shortly after the news broke.

WKRN reports the banner was hanging for up to 30 minutes and university officials didn’t ask for the fraternity to remove it.

MTSU released a statement to WKRN reading:

“The sign in question is inconsistent with the values we promote as a university. We have shared our concerns with the fraternity’s national headquarters and await feedback. We will continue to gather information as we determine whether action by the university is warranted.”

Suspended or not, Sigma Pi’s only wrongdoing here is poor timing. It was funny and harmless. As a passerby, you look over, chuckle, and go about your day.

Sigma Pi’s nationals say the fraternity will be suspended until a further investigation is complete, and the members responsible will face disciplinary action.

    I’m a member of this chapter and it was up for more like 10 minutes. When we told the guys that hung it about odu they took it down immediately.

    All these administrators need to take some Xanax because they have no chill. These signs are just jokes and not meant to be taken seriously. Seems like these days everything offends everyone and no one can laugh at harmless jokes anymore. Liberals are ruining everything

      In England these signs would be considered “banter” and hilarious. Obviously these fraternities aren’t actually expecting parents to think “oh well I was going to take you to your dorm but this looks like a much better place to drop you off.” It’s a fucking joke.

      2015 is the year that liberals, political correctness, a vicious and racist attack on perceived white privilege, and Steve Holt are ruining the country.

    Nationals stepping in a suspending this chapter really hurts to hear. On one hand I understand the logic of, “It’s only one of our chapters. Better to just suspend them now and save face in the media than risk a larger problem facing our whole organization.” But at the same time…fuck, how can you respect a national that won’t stand with their chapter. One of these days a national is going to step in, not to save face, but to lend vocal support to their chapter in question.
