NBA Commissioner Asks Jim Rome if He Still Beats His Wife

Jim Rome, America’s favorite “I-almost-got-punched-in-the-face-and-now-I’m-famous” sports personality is making his way into headlines yet again. Recently on his radio show, Rome spoke with NBA Commissioner David Stern, but the conversation turned sour when Jim asked straightforwardly if the NBA Draft lottery was rigged.

This caused an immediate reaction from Stern, who responded “No… shame on you for asking.” Presumably a “you fucking idiot” was added to the end of that statement in his mind. The conversation continued to derail as Stern asked Jim Rome if he was still beating his wife and then referred to Rome’s tendency for “cheap thrills” reporting, after which the host become noticeably offended. Here’s the audio:

I don’t know about the whole wife beating thing, Rome certainly hasn’t ever been in trouble for it, although he is an asshole. But really Jim Rome? You DON’T think your show is based almost entirely around cheap thrills? You’re only famous for pulling one of the most unprofessional moves in journalism by taunting Jim Everett into knocking you directly in your over-compensatingly smug little grin.

I’m nowhere near a David Stern fan, but he’s never been more right than now. Anything Jim Rome ever stamped his douchey seal of approval on has been nothing more than him berating athletes and making up for his infinite sea of inadequacies. I guess when you’re only 5’4” you have to get your niche somehow, and his is nothing more than pushing his guests’ “piss me off” button.

I can only imagine what his childhood must have been like. As his taller more athletic classmates went on to succeed in the worlds of both sports and women he masturbated furiously in his basement repeating to himself “I’ll show them all one day.” Well you’re showing us something now, Jim Rome, too bad it’s nothing but your complete lack of professionalism.

UPDATE:

As a couple of astute readers pointed out, NBA Commissioner David Stern was not actually accusing Jim Rome of beating his wife. Rather he was simply rebutting Rome with a classic legal example of what is essentially a “no win” question, just like the question Rome was asking Stern about the NBA Draft Lottery.
