Now, I’m just a humble man trying to make a living, but I’d probably focus on the 33% spent on Medicare/Medicaid, the 21% spent on Social Security, or the 8% spent on interest payments on the debt. Lets wind down over 50% of the budget before sending carrots to war victims gets slashed. That’s kind of like worrying about the splinter in your hand as a bear eats your legs.
Hey Tee2green, some of the wealthiest people I know appear rich but once you realize how much they are worth, they actually live fairly frugally. No one is “too rich to care” about where money they are forced to give away goes. By the way, tee to green is how people that suck describe boring golf where par is the greatest event on earth since Plan B hit Walgreens everywhere. I’m guessing you aim for the middle of the green and often three put with your lame ass belly putter. Too rich to care…. What a fucking joke.
Because taxing the bottom 50% who only have 2.5% of the wealth in this nation is going to solve any problem besides your selfish tantrums about equality.
Taxing really solved our problems in the 20s…. wait it drove us further into a depression and the only reason we got out is because the socialist FDR died and the war.
Actually it was the disproportional amount of wealth that the elite had in the 20s that ruined. Combined with a manufacturing collapse after the elite speculated too much and crashed the stock market.
Beer, we don’t want to tax ANYONE. The wealthy are not trying to shift the burden to someone else, they want to reduce the overall burden. WWW, I’m not even really sure what you’re talking about. The 20s were the most prosperous decade in our history up until that point. The high taxes that FDR imposed did greatly lengthen how long we were in the Depression, which arguably was caused by horrendous lending practices; not a rich/poor dichotomy, scbro91.
Just a few months ago, I swear I read a column or post where literally everyone was sucking his dick. He makes one comment about how he thinks that the capital gains tax is too low and now it appears he just gave Al Qaeda a nuke from the amount of vitriol he is now receiving.
Calling Warren Buffet liberal is akin to calling hookers classy. The Oracle of Omaha knows what the fuck he’s doing; more than any schmuck whose parroting their over-zealous parent’s political meandering.
It isn’t wasting money and has nothing to do with giving people money. Because investments are taxed less than earned income, rich people (top 1% of the country, mostly) can grow their wealth at a far greater rate than the other 99% can because that other 99% can’t invest anywhere near as much money. This results in the income gap in this country continuing to grow larger and larger, as it has for the last 20 years. This is a problem because a big income gap is a big strain on consumer spending and the economy as a whole. And before the liberal police tear this post apart, I’m not advocating fixing the gap by taxing the rich and giving it to the poor; I’m advocating taxing all sources of income at similar rates so that everyone is playing by the same rules. That isn’t socialism, you twats, it’s a pure American Dream capitalist idea- everyone gets the same set of rules to play by, and what they do with their lives given that equal opportunity is up to them.
I also love how bent out of shape people on here get about this considering that hardly any of you or your families would ever be affected by this. Take some fucking economics courses, they teach this simple concept at even the most classical, conservative business schools like mine. And while I’m at it, the fact that some income levels don’t pay any income taxes at all is also bullshit- they should all be paying SOMETHING, especially given how many of them want social services like public healthcare. They should be putting their money where their mouth is, too.
Tickle down economics is total bullshit, also. That’s not how it’s ever worked (see: W’s miserable failure of tax cuts in the mid 2000s). People seem to have this fucking stupid idea that the two possible means of economic stimulus are either “trickle down” or “give people money.” There’s so many other BALANCED ways of doing it, but of course our politicians in their infinite wisdom just all vote en masse for one or the other depending what party they are in, which is why nothing good ever gets done in Congress. Seriously, what good have the Republican and Democratic parties done for anyone in the last 20 years? Nothing. They single handedly took a great economy with a surplus and sent it into a tailspin with bullshit wars, horrible expensive stimulus packages, stupid tax cuts (let’s cut taxes AND increase spending! Brilliant idea, W!). Stop voting for these fucking greedy, corrupt assholes and vote for someone who might actually make a difference. I don’t care if you don’t think they can win, your duty as an American and as a member of democracy is to vote for what is right, not the lesser of two evils. God Bless America.
We wouldn’t need to alter the tax bracket if we weren’t spending so much on shit like foreign aid.
14 years ago at 1:30 pmYeah, that 2% of the budget is destroying us.
Seriously, read.
14 years ago at 1:43 pmEat shit, it ought to be 0%

14 years ago at 3:04 pmIf you have to say you’re “too rich to care” it’s pretty much like you’re saying the opposite.
14 years ago at 12:40 amWell considering the rich pay almost 90% of taxes Warren Buffett can go shoot himself in the fucking head and chill with Kurt Cobain.

14 years ago at 2:29 pm^^^Basically, if you consider the top 3 tax brackets to be “rich” or at least “well-to-do,” then they do pay about 90% of the total taxes.
