Nah, should be looking at the Wall Street Masters of the Universe (hedge funds) and how the majority of their income is taxed at the long term dividend rate of 15% while everyone taking a salary (including business owners) is doing the 35. Ideally the solution would involve just fixing that discrepancy and not killing everybody else’s incentives to take risks on equities. But that fight hasn’t been going anywhere for some time. And probably never will.
Actually if you idiots knew anything, then you would know that George Washington rode with the army to force Pennsylvannians to pay taxes. He believed it was their patriotic duty.
Also, tax rates on the wealthy are the lowest they have ever been. This along with the fact that many big corporations paid 0 taxes last year, are creating a real revenue problem for the fed.
Also, no one got wealthy on their own. They used infrastructure provided by the fed to help their dream come true. They use fire and police that other people helped pay for. They use roads and bridges to move their product. All of this goes into building a company. So paying taxes is patriotic as fuck. If you do not think it is, then we should just let our military personnel die, because that is about the only thing left to cut. Entitlements are going nowhere.
And last but not least, Social Security is not a ponzi scheme. By that logic, the entire economy is a ponzi scheme.
Rick perry and the rest of the fucking republican candidates are uneducated retards. I could never vote for someone who thinks that evolution is not real, graduated from college with a 2.2 GPA and failed economics, or vote for someone who believes vaccines cause cancer.
Umm, so much is amiss here. As a fledgling nation, the federal government only had import duties to raise funds, thus a tax was the most efficient means to increase revenue. Its similar to buying war bonds during WWII, the government needs your willing support more than it needs the money.
I’m also pretty sure that the tax rate on corporations used to not exist. Is it lower than zero now? Isnt the corporate another opportunity for double taxation?
I’ve seen this “no one got wealthy on their own” BS quote before. Those roads were paid for by taxes, which the top 10% shoulder 65% of the burden for. The land owning wealthy pay the majority of property taxes, ergo fund most of the education. Police and Fire Protection are legit, but I don’t think anybody here is arguing for less of those guys.
As for entitlements going no where, I sadly agree. “Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower. The entitlement third rail seems to be here to stay. Fuck. But it does have many characteristics of a Ponzi scheme. The new comers pay the benefits of those who got there first, with no value being created. The economy is based on providing value. The concept of value is horribly misunderstood and is the basis for most economic fallacies.
Finally, yes Perry is an idiot. But Americans love a good idiot.
In order of not-idiotness: Paul, Huntsman, Cain, Romney.
Pretty sure taxes are NF.
