yeah…how’d that work out for reagan again? oh right…. letting the rich get richer does not benefit a country as whole as much as some might think. if we want to regain the title of global leader we need to improve the standard of living for all americans, not only the rich, by taxing. if we want to avoid an eventual collapse, and give our populous the best chance to succeed and the opportunity to compete with that of other countries’, we need to change our ways and tax equally. a similar phenomenon developed immediately before the fall of the roman empire. it was when the wealthiest romans (or “optimi”) became richer and richer and build more lavish palaces while the empire’s infrastructure crumbled when the people began to distrust the government, ultimately leading in the fall of the empire. all we have to do is ask ourselves, do we want to enjoy this decline luxuriously, or change our ways and benefit in the long run?
i know you think that blindly following what’s “frat” is cool, but it’s really not. independent thinking is what our country was founded on. conforming to reagan’s beliefs—which did not result in success—is not an intelligent thing to do. and disregarding history only proves you ignorant and conceited, showing that it is impossible to respect anything you say.
We are not interested in your liberal ideology. There are plenty of facts to say Reagan was successful and he is undoubtedly a better president than the current one…granted his followers in the media would have us believe otherwise. Also, we don’t blindly do things just to be fratty, that is what makes someone a try hard. We do things that are fratty because that is what we do and, furthermore, liking Reagan, free markets, and capitalism etc is not just FAF it is fucking American. God Bless America.
As much as I like some of the ideas Reagan had as president, it’s hard to say that he isn’t at least a little overrated. No president that increased the national debt from 700 billion to a whopping 3 trillion dollars and provided weapons to Saddam Hussein should be considered that great. Don’t get me wrong, I’m just as much of a liberal-hater as the rest of you guys, and will be damn sure to go out and vote for Romney in November, but saying that Reagan was one of the greatest presidents of all time is just wrong.
i feel like your response was basically just “it’s ok that i don’t have any views of my own because that’s what being american is.” that’s not what being american is, my friend…. but i think it’s hard to argue with any of you because, no matter what, you won’t be open to anything besides these conformist beliefs, which have been proven to not work. i’m not advocating liberal or propagandized beliefs, just what i think would help america regain the respect we once had. and if you don’t want to be respected and well-regarded by the rest of the world—because we certainly aren’t right now, as those of you who have ever traveled would know—then i don’t know what to say to you. and this isn’t some insane new way of thinking. this is how people used to vote. they educated themselves and made up their own minds, as opposed to just voting with a party. it’s really a shame, and i take the same issue with “liberals” who blindly follow their party, because we’re losing the essence on which america was founded. progressive thinking, mostly from the Enlightenment, and the refusal to accept the nonsensical beliefs (imposed by the british) without question just because that’s what the tradition was. i don’t mean to offend or start any fights, just hoping that we can return to the free-thinking america most of you clearly advocate.
Having the attitude that anyone who believes that Reagan is over rated is retarded. Republicans and democrats are equally American. RR raised taxes for the good of trickle down economics. Warren Buffet has said himself that trickle down economics is a joke.
JFK, I don’t think the points you’re making a bullshit. I agree that Reagan is probably a little overrated, especially within the greek community. However, I take issue with your comparison of modern America with the final throes of the Roman Empire. Rome was not a democracy, it was an aristocracy. It operated within a wholly different political and economic structure than our own. The wealth disparity was massive throughout its existence, and everything I’ve ever read on the matter attributes Rome’s fall at least as much to pressures from outside forces (Goths, Visigoths, etc.) and a general lack of moral discipline as a distrust of the government.
“Faf Blue n Gold,” that video only strengthens my argument. while i agree that it was important to not surrender to the soviets’ will, as his speech notes, i take issue with the message that video, and reagan, ultimately sent. while entering wars to “defend freedom” or “spread democracy” but that have no other clear purpose might seem cool to you, it’s barbaric and a clear sign of direct reliance on the military industry. just look at all of the recent presidents (last 40 years or so) that have used these sorts of wars or advanced, yet pointless, military technologies—like reagan’s star wars program which was designed to shoot nuclear warheads out of the air, mid-flight, with lasers from outer space (you can’t even describe the program without sounding ridiculous)—as excuses to support this complex. even our first president stated that engaging in foreign entanglements should be avoided, so why enter those which are clearly unnecessary or create an entire industry around them? do you really think that we should be the police of the world, while our domestic issues worsen? put our serviceman and women in danger? just so a corrupt industry can prosper? why not create a new industry to replace it? and only fight when it is necessary.
to “brostock’s” comment, i appreciate the civility but would advise you to read some more on the fall of the empire. this video actually lays out the similarities between the late years of the empire and present day america really well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThgsKuv4Ej0
Interesting stuff in that video and again, nothing I’ve heard before. I’m just finishing up a joke class on Roman civilization but the textbook doesn’t even mention decurions.
JFK was pretty frat, He cut taxes for the top tax bracket from 91% to 70%. Tax receipts dramatically increased. He helped deregulate business that helped boost the economy in the early sixties. Cutting taxes for the 1% is pretty fucking frat if you ask me. Reagan learned a lot of the supply side methods he used from guys like Kennedy, Coolidge and Harding. Both JFK and Reagan are FaF.
First.
