Any University can throw up a bunch of houses and have as many fraternities as they want. Now the real question is…are they fratty? Illinois is a prime example of this. You may have a shit ton of houses, but the things you do are not fratty. Take a look at the most popular things said on this site (did you look? Cool let’s continue) Almost all of them are from schools in the south. Take Washington and Lee for example. It is a small school in Virginia, where 79% of the male population is in a house. That’s a large greek scene as opposed to the approximate 11% that UI has. I’m not going to even go into dressing up for football games and actually being fratty, cause UI will never stake up to even the low tier schools of the SEC when it comes to frat.
And Jimmy’s from Alabama. Actually went to my school, but I’m not too proud to say. Great musician but made an appearance in an Obama campaign rally a couple years ago.
How about the fact that I go to Miami University. The mother of fraternities. Everyone’s dressed up any time of day and 40% of the population is greek.
Look at Sewanee, 69 percent is greek. There are exceptions to every rule. I’m not calling out Miami cause it is frat, but there are a lot of yanks on here who think the word frat is bro or Tucker Max moves, and that is fucked up. I’m from Cincinnati (around 30 minutes from Miami) and know many who go there who are greek. I attend an SEC school and I’m literally the only guy in my entire pledge class above the Mason-Dixon. Miami people try to pull off Southern Tide, Southern Proper, and even Southern Marsh with absolutely no success. Even in a primetime SEC school in the Bible Belt, not even I can pull off that type of company due to the fact that I know I’m not from the South. Naturalization takes time. You can’t just walk into college and go from Hollister/gay shit to Fratwear..which I know for a fact is what many do at Miami. So sorry, regardless of having multiple Alpha’s, Miami completely overdoes it and tries to act like their frattier than the SEC.
