Ole Miss Sigma Chi Allegedly Ends Annual Derby Days By Publicly Humiliating Girls
Derby Days is a widely-successful philanthropy that has raised millions upon millions of dollars for cancer research. Typically, the event is a week-long fundraiser that involves girls donating blood, competing in games against other sororities, and competing in lip-sync contests. An all-around great time, and for a great cause.
That was until this past Friday night at Ole Miss during the conclusion of Derby Days when the two Sigma Chis, who were MC’ing the event, decided to try and get cute by asking girls embarrassing questions. Some of those questions included:
“Which Sigma Chi would you most like to go down on?”
“What kind of sausage do you prefer? Linked or Sigma Chi.”
Below is a recount of the events from one of the sorority members in attendance.
The incidents have even started a Title IX investigation by the university. Ole Miss released a statement on Saturday regarding the allegations.
The Office of the Dean of Students at the University of Mississippi has been made aware of an incident that reportedly took place on campus Friday evening during a Derby Days event. Derby Days is an annual philanthropic initiative sponsored and hosted by the Sigma Chi fraternity at UM.
Representatives of the Title IX Office at UM are actively investigating the allegations that have been discussed on social media platforms.If substantiated, the behavior reported at this event clearly violates campus policy and one of the UM community’s core values, which is for our students to show respect and dignity for all. While the investigation into the incident moves forward, the Sigma Chi fraternity has been directed by university officials to cease any official or unofficial Derby Days activities.
“The university takes the report alleging a hostile environment very seriously,” said Rebecca Bressler, director of Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance at UM. “It is important that members of our community feel safe and supported – actions that undermine that goal will not be tolerated.”
University officials expressed their appreciation to those who have come forward to discuss this incident, and they encourage others who were either there or have information that may be helpful to also assist in the investigation.Such individuals should contact Honey Ussery, Title IX coordinator at UM, by either calling 662-915-7045 or emailing hbussery@olemiss.edu.

The girls know what they’re getting into ahead of time and give smart ass, joking answers. If they really did invite the families and kids of those they’re supporting to come, then that’s messed up. But as far as hot seats for becoming a frat sweetheart these questions don’t seem that bad, especially for what I’d expect from the SEC.

9 years ago at 1:03 pmWhat’s really unfortunate is that this has been going on for years and people are only speaking out now. I remember being there last year and being pretty embarrassed for the girls on the ends of these questions, but also being embarrassed by some of their responses. It’s been a problem in not just this fraternity but in the rest of Greek life that has allowed it to continue for so many years.
