Student And Administrators Debate “Oops” And “Ouch” Rules For Offensive Speech In Worst Video Ever

This is beyond dumb. I honestly don’t even know where to start with this one. Should it be the fact that a college has rules that tell you to say “oops” if you find yourself using a term that could be considered offensive? Or the fact those same rules say you should say “ouch” if someone else’s speech offends you? Or the fact that we even need to have this conversation in the first place?
The student, Joscelyn Gradstein of Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, was allegedly suspended from class for challenging the “oops” and “ouch” rules and uploading a portion of the completely mind-numbingly idiotic conversation with administrators to social media.
From YouTube/Joscelyn Gradstein:
In the video I challenge the “oops” and “ouch” method, used in my class. I disagree with the idea, and we discuss. Currently I’m suspended from attending class for dishonoring “student conduct,” which I understand. I’m a liberal, and I’m just disagreeing with the “call-out” culture. I want liberals to come together and focus and the macro, not the micro.
My favorite exchange comes at the end of the video, as they attempt, and fail, to explain why this policy is a thing in the first place.
Administrator 1: “I said some stuff that offended Amy(?), and she has a right to say…”
Administrator 2: “They” (Ya know, because you’re not supposed to assume someone’s gender)
Joscelyn: “They”
Administrator 1: “See? That’s a perfect example.”
Administrator 2: “Oops.”
Joscelyn: “Ouch?”
How in the hell are we having this conversation right now when bees are dying globally at an alarming rate?! At this rate, bees will become extinct by the year 3189!
Kudos to Joscelyn on confessing to being liberal and fighting the good fight against her own kind. Perhaps she can make that side of things the least bit more tolerable. Too far? Oops..

I spit out my lunch when no one else said they had a problem with the oops, ouch system.
9 years ago at 3:20 pmI say we do away with all majors that aren’t STEM and run this fucking goobers off our campuses. Send them to a place where they can concentrate on becoming better citizens. Like a camp of some kind.
9 years ago at 3:28 pmwhat about finance and accounting for our business bros
9 years ago at 4:54 pmQuantative finance is STEM. Corporate accounting and finance just leaves you sitting at a desk 9-5 before you have to go home to your wife who doesn’t put out and probably thinks you’re boring as fuck.

9 years ago at 4:03 pmI meant feminist but is there a difference?
9 years ago at 4:08 pmNot really, but that wasn’t really the point of the video
9 years ago at 5:19 pmI didn’t even see the video. I just saw the thumbnail and assumed she was both
9 years ago at 10:56 pmShould’ve kept that one in your back pocket.
9 years ago at 6:37 pmNever ceases to blow my mind when liberals, who claim to support free speech, will shut down other people’s rhetoric that doesn’t align with their ideologies. First ammendment protects all speech, not just the speech you agree with.
9 years ago at 4:09 pmI witnessed this rule first hand at my own institution. I had to go home, shower, and pray for humanity.
9 years ago at 5:52 pmThe Left. NF.
