OU’s SAE Is Going To Wish This Very Racist Video Didn’t Get Leaked

Screen Shot 2015-03-08 at 5.54.09 PM

A pathetic display of inhumanity was recorded by an occupant aboard what appears to be a chartered bus full of Sigma Alpha Epsilon members from the University of Oklahoma. In the video, an enthusiastic chant is heard that includes the phrase “There will never be a n*gger SAE!” being repeated, followed by “You can hang ’em from a tree, but they’ll never [inaudible] with me!”

The video is below.

Disgusting. Sad. Pathetic. Shameful. All of it.

Many stereotypes exist for legitimate reasons. Racism running rampant among fraternities is one that is unfortunately alive and well because of people like this. Exposing it brings me pleasure.

Several tipsters have alleged that the removal of the SAE chapter from the university is imminent, but we haven’t yet seen an official word on the matter.

UPDATE: The SAE chapter at OU has been placed on a “cease & desist.”

Brad Cohen, SAE’s National President, had this to say following the release of the video:

I would like to comment on this as a black guy in a “southern” fraternity. This one chapter IS NOT an example of the ΣΑΕ fraternity as a whole! The fraternity that I am in interacting with other chapter around the nation have similar renditions of this very song, that their member have actually sang to me, and meant it, but not once in the chapter of my fraternity, that I choose not to mention, have I ever received disrespect. Chapters like these and like these give a bad example of greek life and a very bad example of their fraternity as a whole! I have 2 words for these guys “RISK MANAGEMENT”

I’m an ΣAE and this is sickening. Usually I’m upset to see a chapter get pulled but in this case I couldn’t agree with the national decision more. Racism isn’t something to be tolerated.

Notice it was the biggest fucking goob on the bus that was cheering the loudest and pumping his fist. I feel like he was overcompensating for the fact that he didn’t have a date to formal. He should’ve just done the ethical thing and got drunk enough to hurt himself so everyone could at least laugh.

Ok obviously racism is bad but this reminds me a lot of Donald Sterling and what Mark Cuban said re: the owners voting him out of the league. Doesn’t he / in this case the SAE’s at OU have an inherent right to speech without negative consequence? Regardless of however reprehensible. I mean if SCOTUS thinks the first amendment right to free speech is so inviolably important that assholes like westboro baptist church can protest the funerals of fallen heroes and get off Scott free I don’t know if these SAE’s should be punished for saying nagger.

If you’re mad that TFM reported this or “made it national news” please reassess why you’re in a fraternity.

Glad to see yall show some dignity, as a black guy who has a lot of friends who are fraternity members and is actually really interested in Greek life I was offered a couple bids but I can honestly say shit like this is why I didn’t rush. But I’m glad yall realize how dumb and ridiculously racist this is. And BigBeerBelly you’re a fuckin douchebag

Well.. like a number of other people, this officially pissed me off enough to make an account. I spent this weekend with an old friend, and I had a long conversation where I convinced him that fraternities are not racist like the stereotypes that precede our membership. I guess I’ll have to be more specific and simply say my chapter isn’t next time.
