Over A Thousand Students At University Of Dayton Riot In The Streets For St. Paddy’s Day

From Dayton Daily News:

A large disturbance on the University of Dayton campus ended in the arrest of a non-student for underage drinking and public intoxication, according to a university spokeswoman.

What’s the big deal? A large disturbance caused by an on-campus St. Patrick’s Day party ending in a single arrest sounds like a pretty straight-forward, low key get-together with some upstanding members of the Dayton community.

There’s more:

University of Dayton Police along with Dayton Police calmed a large disturbance involving more than one thousand students and other people in the 400 block of Kiefaber Street.

University of Dayton Police were dispatched sometime between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. in response to a false fire alarm, said Teri Rizvi, a university spokeswoman.

I understand now. That’s a lot of green-clad college drunkards in one place who may or may not have taken the movie Project X to heart.

I never understood the whole rioting thing, which typically involves destroying the place or area where you live, but I guess it’s like an unstoppable snowball of bad decisions and heightened emotions, and people feeding off each other.

Let’s talk for a minute about the Dayton police, though, who did a seemingly amazing job at corralling the out-of-control sea of partygoers.

Other students were seen being pushed with police riot gear shields and resisting officer’s efforts to calm the crowd. There are no reports of injuries.

[…]

The area was brought back under control by police around 6:30a.m. Numerous police officers from multiple agencies are continuing to patrol the area and assess damage to police and private vehicles.

That’s a very impressive effort, considering the damage done.

rioting is fun and acceptable when you are destroying/burning your own shit. i.e. throwing tvs out of the window, etc.

that being said who knew that UD kids were capable of this?

I was there. Only students arrested were Non UD students. President of the university was also there with us TFM. Police also pushed him with a riot shield. This literally ruined the whole day. Probably wouldn’t happen if they were allowed to have kegs on campus. RIP UD St. Pattys day it was a good run.

I have so much respect for Dr. Dan after this. In the DDN video at 1:27 you can see the cops being complete dicks and hes still sticking up for the students. That being said, the hammers about to come down HARD.

the cunts from out of town ruined almost the entire day and by the way that was a Sig Ep 40s at 4 am, butttt it was still a great day its too bad the cops were being such cunts especially to the actual UD students that were complying, and Dr Curan (our president) showed up at the party to tell the cops to “leave the students alone”…thats a TFM

Dayton is a surprisingly Conservative school. The students weren’t going crazy at first until cops began instigating it by forcibly coming onto people’s porches and generally being excessive tools. I’d like to crack a geed in the face with a mag-lite as much as the next guy, but sometimes these cops ought to relax a bit, and take a breather before expending all of that “authority”.
