Why Do People Think The NBA Finals Have Sucked?
The Golden State Warriors took a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night in the NBA Finals with a come-from-behind 118-113 victory.
Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry closed the game on an 11-0 run to stun the Cavs in what was one of the best basketball games I’ve ever watched. An instant NBA Finals classic.
The Warriors are incredible; easily one of the best three teams I’ve ever watched in the post-Jordan NBA (one of the other two was last year’s version of the Dubs). The Cavs are led by the greatest player in the world and one of the best three players of all time in LeBron. He is an alien who somehow, in his 14th year in the league, is putting up the best stats of his career and playing stupid-long minutes for a guy who has played in over a thousand games. Kyrie Irving is the best little-guy finisher at the rim I’ve ever seen.
There are three surefire hall of famers in this series, and likely six total when all is said and done. Yet still, people are complaining about this series because the Warriors are “too good.”
I get it, to a degree. The NHL postseason is more compelling and its finals have been more exciting thus far in terms of competitiveness. There was little drama in getting to the NBA Finals for either of these teams. Everyone knew it was going to be Golden State vs. Cleveland; we were just hoping it’d be a tight one when it got there. So the fact it’s 3-0 and has a very good chance to end in a sweep on Friday is a little bit of a bummer.
But if you’re not enjoying this series, maybe you don’t like basketball. If you can’t appreciate how absurdly good the shot-making was in Game 3, then I don’t know what to tell you. The Warriors are greatness personified, and have a chance to go 16-0 in the postseason (which is a little bit like going four years of college without puking). An almost inconceivable feat. Everyone slips up at least once along the way.
I wish like hell the Cavs could’ve made this series compelling and stolen a game or two, but I’m enjoying watching this team from outer space ride roughshod over NBA teams like Tiger Woods rode through Chili’s waitresses. And if you like basketball and aren’t a Cavs fan, you should too..

This year’s team added Kevin Fucking Durant, plus Pachulia and David West on the cheap, plus the McGee signing somehow worked, so they somehow got deeper in addition to adding a top 3 player. Of course they might go undefeated
Nothing wrong with KD playing where he wants to play, but he may have ruined basketball for the next 5 years by going to a team that probably would have won without him this year just from internal improvement

8 years ago at 8:27 amLol a lot of you guys must not recall the 80’s when basketball was taking off and yet only two teams were ever really competing for a championship: Bird’s Celtics or Magic’s Lakers. The lakers added arguably the greatest center of all-time and the celtics had 4 hall of famers, yet basketball was still enjoyable because dynasties create a new even flow. James’ role as that dynasty is coming to an end, whereas GS is now the new powerhouse. That doesn’t mean next season will suck. A smart coach sees the Spurs system one of if not the only deterrents to GS dominance. There will be competition, but watching how GS handles it can be equally as exciting. Just find the silver lining.
I also hate the narrative that games have to be close for them to be interesting. Let dominance exist naturally, not artificially lower teams so they’re more competitive. Basketball has always had a dynasty. It’s way more realistic. Just think of human history without empires.
