The PGA Tour Is Making Golf Walkout Music A Thing Like Every Sports Organization Should

One of my friends played college baseball, and every summer he would always throw around ideas for what his walkout song should be for when he took the mound. He bounced around every idea from Jersey club remixes to old school Sinatra. It was a big decision; after all, a lackluster musical accompaniment could make or break one of the most hyped moments in sports. Imagine how anticlimactic that scene in Major League would’ve been if Charlie Sheen’s walkout didn’t have “Wild Thing” playing in the background? Yankees would have won the game and that bitchy heiress would have moved the Indians out of Cleveland, so a lot was riding on that moment.

It may have taken long enough, but other sports are finally realizing that the appropriate entrance soundtrack can be a war call to the crowd to get fucking ready because shit is about to go down. The latest to jump on the walkout music bandwagon: professional golf.

You have no idea how amped I am for this. If baseball and professional wrestling can have walkout fanfare, why can’t the great sport of golf? I can already see myself walking up to the first tee with “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen playing as I begin to shoot 4 strokes over on a par 3.

Sadly, I’m thinking of all the missed opportunities now. If Arnold Palmer were still alive, he definitely would have used “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio. The dude was mixing lemonade and ice tea and shit, just living the thug life. Pour one out for him.

Why stop the musical fun at walkouts? Next year, I want to hear “We Are the Champions” blasting at the Masters’ green jacket ceremony. Make it happen, Augusta National. Make it happen.
